over his face laugl1ing and choking while Carl found a piece of paper and was figuring as if his life depended upon it. Did I say tl1e judge had his hands over his face? I meant her hands for as we looked the hands came away and behold, the face of Freda Cromwell appeared. We were all astounded and it required several minutes to get over our surprise. Soon questions were flying and everyone tried to talk at once. I grabbed the first breathing spell and asked Freda if she knew of the whereabouts of Opal Call for we only needed her to complete the old gang. Why, yes, she replied, Opal is going through here on the four o'clock train this afternoon. I just received her telegram and was about to leave for the train when you folks came in. Let's go, I cried, and we all bustled out dragging Carl with us. On the way to the depot Freda told us about Opal. She had be- come a lawyer and only a month before had won a big law suit for the Mount Shasta Oil company. Not only won the case but had been shrewd enough to secure for herself the controlling interest in it. It seemed that she was now going to Sisson where the fields were located and- I've got it! I 've got it! yelled Carl, jumping all over the car, 1 got it at last. What, I asked. Why, the code of course, he replied, With my inventions 1 have been sending and receiving messages from Mars but I couldn 't un- derstand their code. Now I have it, I knew I'd think it out pretty quick. The rest of the ride and the wait at the station were taken up vi ith Carl 's explanations and plans which we grew to believe in as he outlined his work. He had grown calmer as he talked and just before the train pulled in began asking us questions about ourselves. We had enlightened him very little when the train rolled to a stop and Opal Call stepped from it. Needless to say she was overcome by surprise upon seeing us and also overjoyed. When I suggested that she come along with the rest to my residence for dinner and a big talkfest she readily assented and the others voiced their approval. 'Phat evening was one to be remembered. A merrier crowd could not have been found anywhere. Every thing was threshed out to the entire satisfaction of all of us and it was almost daylight before our party broke up. Everything that occurred during our old school days was brought up, discussed and laughed over as well as our experiences since we had last been together. Before we separated we agreed to meet again at Carl and Louise's home in two weeks. Since then we have been together often and we certainly have some wonderful times. At our last meeting we made our plans for a vacation to be spent in our old home town, Dunsmuir. and we are looking forward to the time when we will again meet our old friends and visit good old Duns- muir High. answering n1y advertisement for a private secretary and we started talking over old times. She said that she had married Carl Woodward shortly after leaving college and had been living in Los Angeles ever since. But why are you looking for work? I asked. Because l married Carl, she replied and then explainedlher trouble. It seemed that Carl became so wrapped up in an invention of his that he had left her and gone up in the high Sierras to perfect it. She had used up all her money and was now forced to work for a living. During our discussion noon rolled around and we went out for lunch. Choosing a well known restaurant we went in and after ordering started our conversation again while waiting. I quickly turned as a voice at my elbow exclaimed, Well I'll be durnedf' While Louise merely ventured, Archie Sure enough it was, and he was certainly prosperously dressed. While we were getting over our surprise and securing another seat for our table I had been looking him over and at last burst out jokingly, I'll bet you a plugged nickle you are in the movies. Right, he replied, I'm with the U and D film company, starring in every production. Louise and I just gaped while he told his story but were there with congratulations when he finished. Suddenly he arose, and excusing himself, said that he was going to phone the head of his company to come down. I did not approve of this for I disliked to have an outsider present at our reunion but he returned to the table in high spirits so I soon forgot about it in our conversation. Archie had been watching the entrance and all of a sudden he left us to return in a moment with Louise DeWitt. Imagine our surprise on learning that she was the president of the movie company in which Archie was interested. Still, Archie had always been interested in her and everything she had, so it seemed only natural after a few minutes. We secured another seat and had just begun piecing things together again when we were interrupted by a commotion at the end of the room. I looked up just in time to see a waiter stagger from one of the booths and followed by an officer dragging some one with him. f'arl! cried his wife, and rushed to him while the rest of us strung out behind her. It was Carl all right and I never saw him so angry. What's the trouble? I asked the officer while the others tried to quiet Carl. Before the officer could reply the Waiter blurted, Comes in here and writes all over the table clothes and just because 'I grabbed the pencil he soaked me with a catsup bottle. Yes, interferred just when I almost had it all figured out. bel- lowed Carl. It was too much for the cop so he said they could both tell it to the judge. No amount of pleading could shake his will so as he left with his prisoners We followed close behind. ' We were ushered in before the judge a few minutes after Uarl and the others and upon entering the room saw the judge with his hands Twelve
