gacefall The Buck's 1958 season was inaugurated by blanking Moosic 6-0 on Dunmore's home diamond. The winning pitcher was Phil Dunio, who allowed only one hit, while striking out 11. Ron Aicale and Joe Nicastro each col- lected 2 hits. On April 23, Dunmore playing its 2nd home game of the season, turned back the Trojans of Taylor, 8-6. Paul QDocJ Robertson earned a hard fought victory, aided by John Greshuk and Phil Dunio. Len Colangelo banked out 2 of Dunmore's 7 hits. On its first road game, Dunmore displayed a 13 hit attack, crushing Tech, 14-1. Paul Robertson took credit for the win, giving up 4 hits and strikingout 12. Jay Fitt was the big gun for the Bucks, collecting 3 hits. At this point the Bucks lived up to the pre -season prediction by extending their winning streak to 4 straight wins, defeating the Golden Eagles of Central 3-2 in the final inning. Phil Dunio went the distance, allowing only 3 hits. Phil Forgione contributed a home run and a single. On May 5, Dunmore blanked Dickson City 18-1. Bill Hartshorn and Ron Aicale enjoyed a perfect day at bat, both collecting 3 hits each. Nicastro and Robertson also collected 2 hits. Joe Roche hit a home run to high light the assault. Robertson again was the winner, tossing a 4 hitter and striking out 6. Setting the pace in the Southern division, Dunmore won surprisingly easy over the Invaders of West Scranton 15 -3. Colangelo belted a round trip blow. Sohns, Dobson, Nicastro, and Dunio also whacked extra base hits, to add to the Bucks' triumphant score. Doc Robertson received credit for the win in relief of Phil Dunio. Starting the second half, the Bucks continued the streak to 7 wins in a row by pushing aside Taylor ll-4. Phil Dunio was the winning pitcher, giving up 7 hits and striking out 6. Ted Dobson, Bill Hartshorn, and Joe Nicastro were two -time hitters. In its eight encounter, Dunmore made its Southem Division record 8-0 as Paul Robertson set Technical down 6-0 without a hit. Robertson was given errorless support by Bucks. He issued three walks to deprive himself of a perfect game. Phil Dunio pitched an eight-hitter and contri- buted to Dunmore's offense as the Bucks clinched a tie for the pennant. In the 10th start, Dunmore clinched the pennant in the Southern Division of the Lackawanna Baseball League when it defeated Central 10-0. The victory eliminated from title consideration Moosic and West Scranton, each of which has lost three games. Robertson set Central down on 2 hits, struckout 16, and permitted three walks. Billy l-Iartshorn had 3 of the Bucks' hits. Dunmore's Lackawanna League Southern Division Champions moved to within one game of a perfect season by nudging Dickson City 4-3, for the Bucks' 11th victory at Dickson City, Coach Tom Silvano's Dunmoreans had to stave off a Dickson City three- nm rally in the last inning to preserve their unbeaten status as errors figured in most of the scoring. Phil Dunio was the winning pitcher. Dobson and Nicastro were the top hitters. In its final encounter,Dunmore closed out a perfect season by trimming West Scranton 7-1 at Luzerne Field. The win was the 12th in a row for the Bucktowners, who will stand by to meet the winner of the Middle -Northern Division playoffs for the league Joe Roche title. Sohns was the big man with 4 hits. Mike Margotta CO -CAPTAIN Joe Dupay CO -CAPTAIN Anthony Franceschelli DISCUS 1466 In this year's debut, the track team ofDunmore High School traveled to Memorial Stadium where the Red Raiders of Tech acted as hosts. Dunmore seemed to breeze through this meet with an 80.5 to 46.5 win. Mike Mecca captured a first place in the 100 yard dash for the Bucks. Mike Margotta the team's co-captain, did likewise in the high hurdles, and Paul Evans took the honors in the low hurdles. Mike Kanavy tied for first place in both the high jump and the pole vaultg Bill Springer-broad jumpg Ronnie Rusinko-mileg and both relay teams. In the second meet of the year, Dunmore entertained the Golden Eagles of Central. Releasing a terrific onslaught, the Golden Eagles overwhelmed Dunmore with a smashing 38 to 89 defeat. Thus defeat was due to injuries suffered by two of the Bucks mainstays, Mike Margotta and Mike Kanavy. In another journey to Memorial Stadium, the Bucks went to compete in the Jordan Relays. Here they were hopelessly outclassed, and captured only two points. At the conference Dunmore placed third with a total of 26.5 points.
