Dunmore I-lalfback Joe Nicastro gets by West Scranton defender, who's being blocked out of play by Mike Mecca 1701 in game at Scranton Memorial Stadium. i 7 M5 For the first time in Dunmore Football history, the Bucks finished the season without a win. The Bucks' team seemed to have what it takes during the first half, but offered little resistance thereafter. For example, opening the season against the Bulldogs of Berwick, the Bucks held a 2-0 advantage at half time, but petered out in the second half and lost to an inspired Berwick team 13-2. The following game proved to be a replica in the first half, holding the Wildcats of Duryea to a 0-0 tie. But the second half was fatal to the helpless Bucks as Duryea scored 30 points. In their next outing, Dunmore got off to a quick 6-0 lead on Len Colangelo's sensational 75 yard run. How- ever, the game ended in a 13-6 defeat. In their next encounter, the Bucks were crushed to a 38-0 defeat by a powerful Old Forge eleven. Seeking their first victory, the Dunmoreans held a 7-0 lead with five minutes remaining to be played. But, the second half jinx came back to haunt them, and Taylor came back with a 14-7 victory. From the opening whistle, a rugged Blakely team held the upper hand and came out with a 40-12 win. In the next game, the Bucks could not curtail the running of Central's All-State fullback, John Chisdak, who racked up four touchdowns as he led a power house Central team to a 41-14 romp. In the next encounter, Tech proved too powerful for the Crimson Tide winning 33-13. In this game flashy halfback Mike Mecca gave the Dunmore fans one of their few moments of joy, when he reeled off a 68 yard run. In the annual Thanksgiving Day duel against the Invaders of West Scranton, the Bucks drew first blood on a 1 yard plunge by Sophomore quarterback, Billy Hartshom. West was definitely out-played by an inspired Dunmore squad, but still trailed 13-7 at half time due to blocked kicks on the part of West. Again the Bucks' offense failed and they ended up on the short end of a 46-13 score. The Seniors, Co-captains Sandy Quatra and Len Colangelo, End Tucker Fox, I-lalfbacks Mike Mecca and Joe Nicastro, and Guard Joe Bundy, played noticeably well in a poor Dunmore season. Congratulations to Dream Came candidates Joe Nicastro and Sandy Quatra, and to the recipients of honorable mention on the Scrantonians All-Scholastic team, Bill I-lartshom, Len Gallo, Sandy Quatra, and Sal Marchese. We hope that next year's squad captained by Butch Amone and Sal Marchese will meet with more success. R I Q9 , DUNMORE BACKS lst ROW, Kneeling from Left to Right: Coach Tom Silvano, Len Colangelo, and Ron Aicale. 2nd ROW, Standing: Billy I-Iartshom, Mike Mecca, Art Manuel, and Joe Nicastro.
