lAJ Q ■ -'2 Ed • ,J NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE Co- Editors Jacqueline Webb Dianna Brown From the joy of sharing with each other, the happiness and fulfillment of this last year, we bring you the 1962-63 Reflector. As the Seniors bid good-bye to all of our school friends, let us stop and look back on the activities and organiza¬ tions that played a great part in our lives. The Yearbook Staff hopes that this Reflector will always be a keepsake to you and constantly be a reminder of pleasant memories of your school days. Co- Editors Jackie Webb Dianna Brown Our enthusiasm, zest, and interest in our school has made the year of 1962-63 one of which we can be proud. We have made new friends; we have kept old ones. We have cheered our teams to victory; we have accepted defeat graciously. By working hard together, we have accomplished many things. Now, we are looking forward to the future with vivid hopes and dreams. ■ 1 mm’ ¥ m In October of 1929, the first students entered Dunlap High School. They were the first of a long line of actors and actresses who played parts in the history of Dunlap. Each principal, teacher, secretary, student, custodian, cook, or bus driver who was ever a part of the school is important in its history. A school is not just a building. It is the people who attend, whether they are there to teach or to learn. It is, also, the parents. Theirs is an important part, for they get their children off to grade school, stand by them through high school, always working with the teachers in the best interest of the student. They give the student the opportunity to become educated and be a useful member of school and society. It is to all the parents who have sent their children to Dunlap, along with each other member of the educational system at Dunlap during the years from 1929 to 1963, that we dedicate the 1962-63 Reflector. Tne answer is by developing your independence, initiative,' integrity, imagination, and energy. By independence, we mean to be sufficiently independent to think, to act, to leem for oneself. ’ By initiative, we mean getting the most out of school by doing many things without being asked or told, by studying and learning because you want to stidy and learn. By integrity, we think of a student who does his own work to the bcf-t of h.ia ability. He proves hls-self worthy of his, ability and his friends confidence. The student with integrity doss the thing which he feels la i‘ight. .• By imagination, we mean using your brain, f inning new ways to reach a goal. By energy, we mean work. Education does not come easily, it isn't given to anyone. Only by the ex..rtion of energy is it attained. The harder you work the more you learn. Independence, initintive, integrity, imagination, and en..r5j', these alone oo not giuarantee an education, succeri , or happi.iosH . However, the student who sincerely wants to got more out of school can employ them, ant; he will find that he (Joes indeed get more in return. trur.lap High School baa furnished educational opportunities for students in this area for thirty-four years. Next year It will serve s!- an elementary school. Students and graduates of Uu-tiap have maoc valuable contributions to our comiwunity, state, nation, and our worlo. I hope that wc have learned from experience that the best route to real happiiioss is through serving others. file faculty wishes every stuuent true happitiuss through service to others. Ten years ago, there were only' 16 million acres of woodlands on the nation's accredited Tree Farms. Today, there are almost 50 million acres, a three-fold increase. Each Tree Fami is being operated as a private enterprise, growing trees for a regular cash income, just like any other crop. One of the big reasons why tree farming is a growing business is because the market for wood is growing. Annual consumption of wood products is rising at a steady rate and continues to rise as our economy expands. The country's tree fanners are able to supply these growing needs because they are employing scientific forestry methods in cutting, harvesting, seeding and through the protection of their timber from fire and disease. This is good news not only for tree farmers and wood-using industries, but also for the nation. West Virginia Pulp and Paper COVINGTON TRANSFER STORAGE 114 W.
