DUNLAP HIGH SCHOOL ROUTE THREE COVINGTON, VIRGINIA OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S NOTE TO THE I960 GRADUATION CLASS The purpose of education is to help individuals make useful changes in themselves. Education is more than a means of putting extra dollars into your pay envelope. It is more than a means of acquiring new skills to sell goods. Education helps prepare students to make satisfactory vo¬ cational adjustments. It should also equip young men and women for good citizenship--for taking their places in their community as citizens and leaders of a democracy. Edu¬ cation is to help people to develop their special abilities and interests--to help them to enrich their personalities and to add satisfaction to their living. You are aware of the fact that graduation from high school is by no means the end of your education. You have come a long way; but there are countless possibilities still before you. You also know that to take your place in the complex society in which we are living, you will want as much education as you can possibly obtain. There is no denying the fact that the more education you have, the better off you will be--the better your chances for success will be --the better citizen you will be, and the happier and fuller life you will lead. I urge you therefore to continue your education by what¬ ever means are available to you. The faculty of Dunlap School wishes for each of you suc¬ cess and happiness. 10 Sincerely yours, R. Lynn Graham, Principal Dunlap High School
