CLASS HISTORY The history of the senior class of 1957 began September 1947. Six first graders, Jean Carper, Jean Kersey, Norma Lewis , Alma Wilson, Rachel Wright, Jackson Wilson, and Jame s McDaniel a re members of the present senior class. Miss Fleshman was the first grade teach- e r . The second grade teacher was Miss Carden. The third grade group welcomed Miss Tigrettas their teache r and Grace Ott as anew pupil. In the fourth grade under Mrs. Carper, Clara Sprouse and Elizabeth Cochran came to Dunlap. Virginia Reed, Opal Booth, Romaine O'Conner and John Graham joined the group in the fifth grade and their teacher was Mrs. Helms. Mr. Smoot guided the sixth grade and Bobby Broughman came to Dunlap. Sonia Carter, Alvin Bates, Frank Hepler came to the seventh grade taught by Miss Lowman. F re shmen at last! A proud group of eighth graders eagerly be¬ gan their high school career. The group was thirty-eight strong in Mrs. Marquess' home room. Class officers were J immy Kidd, Sonia Carter and Jack Turner. Rosemary Simpson came from Boiling Springs . The class endured initiation by the sophomores. Jean Kersey was the candidate for fall festival queen. The Sophomore year saw Sonia Carter, Jimmy Kidd and Grace Ott leading the class as they worked on a successful assembly program and campaigned for Virginia Reed, can¬ didate for queen. Mrs. Macheras was home room teacher. Juniors are nearing the goal! This was a busy and exciting year. Among the highlights were Opal Booth's election as Festival Queen, the arrival of those treasured class rings and the Junior-Senior Ban¬ quet. Marshall Martin, Grace Ott, Jean Kersey and Sonia Carter were class officers and Mr. Carter was class sponsor. Senior year 1 The class began in September with high hopes for a succe s sful year. Sonia Carter, Marshall Martin, Jean Ann Carper and Frank He pie r we re elected to lead the class. Campaigning for Elizabeth Cochran, candidate for queen, and work on the annual, class play, senior trip, May day program and graduation were the pleasant, if exacting, tasks facing the group. June 1957 - Graduation day and the final page in the history of the class of '57 will be written. HISTORIAN ROSEMARY SIMPSON
