THE REFLECTOR SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We the Class of ' 48 started our school career in 1937. Although we started in four different schools, we finally got together at Dunlap. Our first seven years were spent trying to grasp the fundamentals for a founda¬ tion in later life. It was quite a struggle with all the ups and downs of measles, chicken pox, and scarlet fever but we managed to make the grade to high school losing only a few of our members along the way. Our Freshman class had an enrollment of nineteen, including Roselyn Ballard, Raymond Boone, Myrtle Bowen, Phyllis Crosier, George Dewese, Lucy Drummond, Clara Eggleston, Roselee Graham, Wade Griffith, Paul Mann, Jr., Carrie Sue Murphy, Harry Nickell, Mary Owens, Virginia Shay, Odelle Smith, Jesse Southall, Catherine Spencer, Irene Wickline, and Lewis Wilson. The outstanding event of that year was initiation. We were required to dress as mountaineers, chorus girls, and carpenters, bowing to the upper classmen and obeying them for the day. At the beginning of our Sophomore year our class had dwindled to thirteen. This loss included George Dewese, Roselee Graham, Paul Mann, Jr., Carrie Sue Murphy, Jesse Southall, and Lewis Wilson. The year passed rapidly and soon we found ourselves Juniors with only two more years to go. The Junior year was our first big year with the Junior-Senior Bafiquet and plac¬ ing five of our class on the Girls Basketball team. The class still grew smaller with Ray¬ mond Boone dropping, Harry Nickell entering Covington High School, and Catherine Spencer getting married. This left only ten. Now our Senior year is here and we hope it is our biggest and best year. Our class has increased by two. We first were joined by Harold Godby from Rupert High School who had been serving in the Army. Rose Matacia transferred later from Cov¬ ington High School. We also made history by becoming the first senior class to have three members get married. These are Roselyn Ballard, who is now Mrs. Roger Boone; Myrtle Bowen, Mrs. Lugher Kersey; and Phyllis Crosier, Mrs. Odell Martin. Members of our class who will receive diplomas in June are: Lucy Drummond, Virginia Shay, Harold Godby, Myrtle Bowen Kersey, Wade Griffith, Mary Owens, Odelle Smith, Rose Matacia, Clara Eggleston, and Irene Wickline. We shall leave school wandering down different roads and lanes, in many differ¬ ent professions. Some will be in business, nursing, teaching and general work, and some in matrimony. Whatever we choose we will always remember the good old Class of 1948. II
