The members of the class elected Karen Herrmann as President, Jack-Sniff as Vice President, Sue Plattner as Secretary and Tom Cline as Treasurer. Our first float in the Homecoming parade was Eagles Appetite Satisfied. Karen Herrmann was our first Home- coming queen candidate. And Jack Sniff our first King candidate. In the Spring of the year, four girls of our class were elected junior varsity cheerleaders. They were Janice Meeks, Linda Hicks, Pat Senti, and Sherry Conlee. In the Junior Carnival our stunt received second place. When we returned to school in the fall of 1960 we elected Pat Senti as President, Tom Cline as Vice President, Lori Bundy as Secretary, and Jerry Downs as Treasurer. We were very proud of our third place float in the Homecoming parade. Pat Senti and Mike Watkins were our queen and king candidates. Sue Plattner, Karen Herrmann, Pat Senti, and Janice Meeks were elected varsity cheerleaders. Our class won first place in the stunt show of the Junior Carnival. In the fall of 1961 we entered Dunlap High School as upperclassmen. We elected Jack Sniff, President, Tom Cline, Vice President, Janice Meeks, Secretary, and Marcia Ma Gava, Treasurer. Our float in the Homecoming was Room at the Top for Dunlap. Our candidate for Homecoming Queen was Janice Meeks and Jack Sniff was our King candidate. The second semester we elected new officers. They were Tom Cline, President, Karen Herrmann, Secretary and Marcia MaGava, Treasurer. On April 6 our class play, TAKE CARE OF MY LITTLE GIRL gathered a record breaking crowd and was very successful. Our class sponsored the Junior Carni- val The Roaring Twenties and won first on our stunt again. On the night of May 12 we presented a prom in honor of the Seniors intitled Crystal Ball. Sue Plattner reigned as Queen in the beautifully decorated room in the Bradley Stu- dent Center. A green and white false ceiling gayly decorated the center crystal ball. The Gay Notes provided music for the dancing. Our final year at D.H.S. began in the fall of 1962. The officers elected were Jerry Downs, President, Jim Romersburger, Vice President, Lynne Wilson, Secretary, and Tom Cline, Treasurer. Our float The Panthers are Coming, won second place in the Homecoming parade. Lynne Wilson was our Queen candidate and Jim Carlile was elected King. On November 16 we presented OLD DOC as our Senior Play. Our sponsors throughout our four years were: Mrs. Barbara Sullivan, Freshman year, Mr. Samuel Jones and Mrs. Helen Pierce, Sophomore and Junior years, and Mr. Robert Pardieck and Mr Samuel Jones sponsored our Senior year. This ends our school days at Dunlap High School. Our memories will linger on of our schools days forever. CLASS OF '63 Colors: Aqua and Silver Flowers: White Rose Motto: One step at a time, but always forward 17 in 'fav Tom Colleen Alice Stephen Pat Steve Marci a Pat Marie -eff? Janet 18 Jack Joe Bob Hazel Carolyn Lynne Janice Judy Sue Karen 1 9 Story: The year--2000 A.D. The Scene--the annual class reunion The altunni are just beginning to gather for the reunion. Dunlap has changed a bit from the place it used to be. D.H.S. now has 23 floors, and two-hundred ten rooms--of course, it still has only 210 students but facilities are more comfortable now. The first to arrive is J. M. Romersberger in his limousine. I-le married a millionairess several years ago and is now owner of the YMCA--Young Millionaire's Cash Association. From talking to Mike Watkins, it seems he is doing as well as old Jim. Mike is the director of the FBI. I really never realized how brave, dar- ing and adventurous he was to assume the highest position in Fuller Brush Incorporated. Steve Raistrick's old nickname of Captain has really held true. He's now the kiddies favorite-- Captain Kangaroo. Strangely enough, Janet Lair is press secretary to some kangaroo. Remember Frann Matthews? She took a busi- ness course in high school. Now she can type 298 words a minute and is happily married to an IBM Machine. Dr. Bill Bearden is here too. Also his nurse, Judy Koehler, is with him. Judy has a really difficult job just caring for Bill since he faints at the sight of blood. And here come Sue Plattner and Keren Herr- mann. They're editors of the new national maga- zine, OFFBEAT. Lynne Wilson is here. Lynne models for the I dreamed Iwas commercials. Guess it's a carry-over from old high school days when she was always dreaming about something for someonej. Alice Jones is here from location in Holly- wood. She recently finished the reproduction of Take Care of My Little Girl in which she played the part of Mother Apple. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Arriving with Alice was Colleen Thurman, head beauty consultant at Fox Studios. Those Hi-Fashion courses paid off. , Jack and Janice Sniff are here, too. They're part of the few who stayed around Dunlap to watch it grow. There is Steve Podgorski. He has on hunting clothes and is carrying a gun. He's a professional hunter, you know. QHE l-IUNTS GIRLSQ. There's a group of boys who used to spend a lot of time at the Farm Restaurant. The group included: Bob Johnson, Jerry Down, Jim Carlile, Tom Cline and Joe Dunlap. Bob Johnson is now working with the Red Cross. He is in charge of disaster areas--espe- cially FLOODS. Oh, remember how tall and slim Jerry Down used to be. You'd never know him now--he's a 5'3 tall, he weighs 159 potmds and he's as ballad as an Eagle QA Dunlap Eagle., Wasn't it Jim Carlile who was such a whiz in math in high school? I remember that he got a 28 on a Trig test during his senior year. Now he's developed the Carlile Theory of the Uni- verse--everybody's square. Tom Cline has turned into a regular Bob Ctunmings. There are five girls with him today. His friends call him Playboy Puff. I heard old Joe Dunlap is doing well for him- self. His paper route now includes Dunlap and Princeville. Congratulations, Joe. Pat Lewis is President of the first national Girls' Athletic Association--for girls over 50. Marie Mclntyre was the charter member. Jackie Down is famous now, too, She holds the record as the world's fastest talker. fC0ntinued on page 53j 'mo .1 . . ,.,: ,:- 5? A EA' Sm.. fail B- Allen L. Andrews I. 5' R. Broyhill S. Each class and bona fide organization has one representative on the council. The duties of the student council this year have been numerous. The council has been in charge of student body elections. These elections include that of cheerleaders, student council president, and homecoming king and queen. The annual Homecoming festivities were governed again this year by the Student Council. Also four excellent assembly programs were presented by the Student Council this year. The Dunlap Student Council sent four delegates to the annual Pekin District Convention of Student Councils. We are proud also to have been a member of the Illinois Association of Student Councils. Our officers of the past year were: President ..... ......................... . . This average must be maintained during the following year or mem- bership is permanently revoked. Membership in the Dunlap chapter of the society is now eighteen and we have every hope of increasing this number rapidly. With the aid of our sponsor, Mrs. Wipert we represent and serve our school scholastically. f mls JUNIOR RED CROSS lst ROW: L. to R.: B. Mankle, K. Schubert, Sec., J. Edmiston, Pres., B. Allen, M. We went to the State Music Contest on the 16th of March and participated in the vocal musci festival which took place on the 12th of March . . . We also had a few individual barber shop quartets which performed on various occasions. 45 The Dunlap Future Homernakers of America is a very proud and busy organization. There were several country school houses fthen called subscription houses, because they were not sup- ported by taxesj built around 1834 in the area surrounding Dunlap, it was not until 1877, six years after Dunlap became a legally organized village, that the first village school four present fire house, consist- ing of eight grades, was built--at a cost of S4,000. Nearly sixty years later, in 1893 the citizens of Dun- lap saw a need for a more advanced level of education, and hence added two years of high school to the system which was used. In 1931, a brick gymnasium now stands, in this structure both grade and the two year high school classes were taught. A third year high school term was added in 1905, and a second addition was added to the structure. In 1931, a brick gymnasium--our auditorium--was built at its present site. What we at Dunlap now call the old building was built in the summer of 1935 and occupied in the fall of 1935. Preceding Carroll Nafziger as Principal of Dunlap was Mr. M. H. Huffman, who came our school as Coach in 1925. In 1934, he succeeded Mr. Coriell as principal. In the spring of 1956 the Dunlap citizens voted to expand the school building with provisions to add another story for future use. A few interesting sidelights: The first graduating class consisted of three graduates. Dunlap original annual was entitled the KLIMAX, it was called the DUNLITE, and later came the title the EAGLE. The basketball team in 1915-16 consisted of 7 players. In 1917, under direction of Coach Merril and Captain Colgans, the D.H.S. Basketball team lost a game to B.P.I. Academy flater named Bradley Universityy the score was 21-14. According to the 1923 DUNLITE, graduation day was held in June instead of May. In 1923, Dunlap H.S. presented an all school comic opera entitled THE GLASS SLIPPERH fCinderellaj The Dunlap Chapter of Future Farmers of America was started in October 1929. In the '3O's the winner of Jr. Carnival stunt shows received a large silver cup. The Dunlap band was organized in approximately 1934. In 1938, the band consisted of 35 pieces. In 1937, the class of 45 freshman was the largest one in Dunlap history until present day. The Senior classes of 1936-37 gave the school its electric score board. In 1938, the Boys' Glee Club contained more than half of the boys in the high school. Dunlap's basketball team, the Bucketeers, captured the Kickapoo Valley League trophy in 1935-36 and 1936-37. The team's record in 1937-38 was: Won--13 Lost--7. 52 fContinued from page 205 Jean Edmiston wouldn't have believed it, but her shorthand teacher's prediction came true. In 1995, her employer died and left Jean one mil- lion dollars. Carolyn Arnett has written a new set of rules for playing volleyball. One of her rule changes is that the ball may only be hit out of bounds. Claude White, voted philanthropist of the de- cade, has donated an airplane to Hazel Jones. Now she can travel more quickly to her mission in Africa. Stan Burton now owns a fair share of Ford Motor Company. I-Ie has 52 Fords for is it Chevys--Oh, wellj. Lora B. is Stan's head me- chanic and she loves her job. I think she even likes her boss. Marcia McGava is now a very famous fortime teller. Strange, isn't it. She and Pat Senti helped write the class prophecy. Oh, Pat Senti lives in a subdivision called Rich-timber --a bit reminiscent of her old love of RICHWOODS. I guess Margie Hart lives there too. Finally, there's Don Baer. He built the new Dunlap High School. Maybe that's why the upper ten floors are a little lopsided. Oh Oh! ! We better move along. Here come Mr. Pardieck and Mr. Jones, our sponsors during our Senior. Somebody said they have 350 boxes of Christmas cards they want to sell. FORGET IT! VxfE'VE HAD ENOUGH! There were only two seniors on the team, Claude White and Stephen Podgorske. Lack of experience is one reason the team was held back from a successful season as there were very few lettermen back this year. We all hope that next year's team will have a very successful. 64 JUNIOR VARSITY There were four Jr. Varsity football games this past year plus two freshman football games. Although the teams were not too successful, they showed much enthusiasm and drive for the coming seasons, We had a fine showing for both the freshmen and sophomores with many out from both classes We all hope that this experience they have gained will help Dunlap have a better varsity team in the coming years. In conference play, it broke even, winning two games and losing two. The two victories came over Toulon and Elmwood, while the two losses were to Wyoming and Princeville. In non-conference games, the team dropped a total of four games to Princeville, Wyoming, Toulon, and Elmwood, bringing its final record to two wins and six losses. There were only two seniors who played regularly, therefore most of the boys will be back this year. With most of the team having a yea.r's experience, we can look forward to a better season this year. 72 ADVERTISING DUNLAP guna BANK Start Off on the Right Foot Start a Savings Account with Us Our 65th Year HORIZONS unlimifed...
