spew Karen DeLance, Dean Sieck, Lorna Siglin, Barbara Dunham, Mrs Campbell, Charlene H1nkel, Marilyn Smith, Bonnie Koski, Fern Sum erfield Front Row Dave Ploth, Pat Thomsen, Ann Byrnes, Phyllis McDonald This year, 1957 58, nineteen students entered into the different fields of Speech The fields they part icipated in were Dramatic Declamation, Humorous Declama- tion, Oral Interpretation, Original Oratory, Radio, and Extemporaneous Speaking There were only three fields that were not entered into They were Debate, One act Plays, and Oratorical Declamatlon In speech work there is a great deal of competition and our students enter into a series of four contests The first contest was the Local Contest held in the high school assembly and w as judged by the faculty Everyone entered into this contest, except for three who had transportation diffi culties that night There had to be an elimination be cause only three persons may go on in each different field Out of the n1neteen,part1c1panta fourteen were picked to go on to the Preliminary Contest at Elkhorn, February 15 At this contest seven students in eight fields received I's They were Radio Steve Petersen, Dave Ploth Original Oratory Steve Petersen Humorous Declamation Lorna Siglin, Dean Sieck Dramatic Declanr ation Karen DeLance, Barbara Dunham Extemporaneous Speaking Ronald Dougal These students went on further to the District Contest at Harlan, March 6 Here four students received five I's These students will now participate in the State Contest at Denison, March 26 27 28 29 They are Dramatic Declamation Barbar a Dunham, Karen DeLance Original Oratory Steve Petersen Radio Steve Petersen Humorous Declamation lban Sieck.
