The High School Chorus has for many years served as a means of entertainment for the pupils of Dunkirk High as well as taking part in many programs. Under the guiding hands of Mr. Charles O. Repert, the chorus, sang the popular Song of Christmas by Roy Ringwald for the first time in Dunkirk High at the Christmas program in the new auditorium. The chorus also went on its annual trip to sing at the Fredonia State Teacher's College Spring Festival in May. Besides these activities the chorus has sung many songs for their own pleasure, some of them being, The Night ls Young , I Got Plenty of Nothin ', One World , Deep Purple , and Build Thee More Stately Mansions . Bolstered by the return of five lettermen, the Dunkirk Maroons entered into the Nia- gara Frontier Football League. Although the Maroons didn't fare so well in the won and lost columns, they were in there scrapping every moment of the game. In the first game of the season Dunkirk mixed it up with the LaSalle High School gridders winding up on the long end of a l2 to 6 count. The next game saw the Maroons traveling to Lockport. We lost that game by the score of 19-0 in the Lockport stadium. The following Week, a very heavy Niagara Falls team travelled to Dunkirk to defeat' our boys to the tune of 30-7. The next game lead our Marauders up to the Fredonia Bowl. A very light but spirited and hard driving Hillbilly squad defeated the D. H. S. boys 13-0. The following game Dunkirk drove to the Trott goal line only to be stopped by the clock, losing 12-7. Over the hills went the Marauders to be the guests of the Olean Oilers. In a free scor- ing encounter both sides ended up with twenty-six points. Fredonia's highly-rated Hillbillies again came to Dunkirk and humbled our Maroons to the score of 20-O. 'W The boys from lamestown came over and defeated our Marauders to the score of 40 to 6. ' Although outclassed in points and wins and losses, our boys were never lacking in sportsmanship and in hard playing. The. season's score stood at won l, lost 6, and one tie. BASKETBALL ROW I: Albert Mayott, William Rosing, Herman Albertine, William Vaughn, Robert Fafinski, Richard Fitzer. ROW II: Mr. Pagano, Ray DeLand, Noman Begier, Robert Groesch, Robert Miller, Iohn Schrantz, Anthony Bennice, Mr. Hoeppner. The-Dunkirk High School basketball team started the season with only two returning lettermen, 'Herrn Albertine and Booey Vaughn. The newest entry into the Lake Shore Loop, Gowanda, humbled our Maroons by the score of 28 to 23. Not disheartened by defeat in their first game, the team came back to the home Court and defeated both Westfield and St. Mary's by scores of 26-22 and 43-23. Once more our Maroons felt the sting of defeat as a fast breaking Erie Academy team Shellacked them by the score of 40 to 31. Iamestown's Raiders came to Dunkirk sporting the league lead and they were still in possession of it when they left defeating Dunkirk by the score of 47-30. ' The Fredonia Hilltoppers defeated the Marauders by the score of 39-33 in the low-ceil- inged gym. Falconer's Falcons came to Dunkirk to defeat our warriors to the tune of 38 to 30. The the postponed game with Silver Creek came up. In the bandbox gym, both teams play- ed a whale of a ballgame, Silver Creek winning by the score of 34-33. I Thus did the first half of our league schedule finish with Dunkirk winning one while losing five and holding down the fifth place in the league. Then the boys from Gowanda came to Dunkirk only to be defeated in what may have been the game of the season. Dunkirk won out in the overtime encounter 34-32. The Maroons journeyed to Westfield and humbled the Grapepickers 41 to 24. The Maroons then journeyed over the hills to Iamestown where they played a superb second half basketball after dropping in only 8 points in the first half. The final score was 54 to 42. Fredonia and Silver Creek High Schools came to Dunkirk and both felt the sting of de- feat losing 28 to 25 and 40 to 33 respectively. Our boys then went to the Fourth Street gym to play St. Mary's. The Saints were defeated by the Marauders 52 to 37. ln the season's finale the Maroons journeyed to Falconer to end up on the long end of a 53 to 45 score. I70l CLASS PRCPHECY As we approach the marquee of the Grand Theater , 'owned by Lebert De Pasquale, we see in lights the famous names of the latest Hollywood couple, Clover Ransbury and the popular matinee idol, Buzz Schrantz, now starring in The Eternal Triangle, written by Bobo Lunger and directed by Charles Hannum. A cab, driven by Patty Wheeler zooms up to the curb, and we see arriving the newly wedded couple, Bradley C. Tippins and his wife, Beatrice Maslach, the former champion lady mountain climber. They are assisted out of the car by the doorman, Iohn Naetzker. Strolling through the lobby we see such local notables as the mayor, Iames Schmatz, the superintendent of schools, Eugene Murphy: the district attomey, Edgar Pudery the presi- dent of the local bank, Leo Raczyk: garbage man, Richard Sidey: and the noted paint brush bristle straightener, Robert Rich. We buy our tickets from Virginia Szukala at the box office and they are taken at the door by Robert Zielinski. We are escorted to our seats by several lovely usherettes, Betty lane Moore, Genevieve Mataczysnki, Natalie Dudeck, and Mary Ann Domst. The houselights dim and the show begins with the Dunkirk Wowy News Flashes. We discover that the famous scientist, Robert Linberg, has stated that the world is neither round nor flat, but oval. Also, his co-partner, Ioseph Gullo, has claimed that the ants are taking over civilization and that one should step on every one he sees. Here the picture changes to the smooth precision and rhythm of the Mud Puddle Chor- ines displaying their acquatics, and we see Marie Eberle, Celine Zebrasky, loanne Zebracki, and Ianet Prince swimming through the bubbling foam. Previews of coming attractions show us that You Can't Take It With You is appearing for the lOOth time with the original senior play cast. We see also Howard Meyers and Mildred Teclaw co-starring in the new western, Bob Pakulski and his let-Propelled Bandits , with Butch Ratkiewicz and Frank Klaibor. And now a selected short subject. A flicker flash back of Tarzan Conquers Madam Hazamba , with lack Benson in the title role, Margie Webster as Iane, Donald Orts as Boy, Bob Schrantz as Cheetah, and Ioan Ryby as Madam Hazamba. Louis Ciongoli and Hermie Al- bertine are so enticed by this magnificent piece of drama that they take to playing tag on the chandeliers. The next feature is also a short subject in which Bill Block and his orchestra introduce the newest song by Helen Baumgartner, which is sung by Marilyn Greve and her Swingtette, composed of Grace Buchanan, Elizabeth Eggert, Ieanne Evans, Theo Gage, Iohn Meyers, Raymond Hamernik, Alfred Krochmal, and Richard Snyder. This entertaining short is inter- rupted by a crunching sound issuing form the seat behind us, and we turn around to see Ronald Moser eating popcom contentedly, though somewhat noisily. Anything following this cannot be seen because of a pair of ladies who sit in front of us and whose hats completely obstruct all vision of the screen. They are none other than Lois Fox and Carole Dillenkofer. We leave the theater and move up the main street to Henry's Hash House, owned by Henry Ebert, whose chef, Alvin Case, has made this place a popular eating establishment with his Eggs A La Alvin . After ordering a double serving of this dish, we are entertained by a violinist who passes to our table and plays our requests for a slight fee. Looking closely, we recognized him to be fred Arcoraci. While we are waiting for our order a slight accident occurs when the two waiters, Robert Cloos and Bronislaus Skubis collide, upsetting a bowl of hot soup down the back of Agnes Wasielewski. We leave the restaurant with a feeling of contentment and move toward home, happy, though tired. l7ll lN MEMORIAM Edmund Skippy Sekula Ir. was born in Iune 30, 1930. He was a rather short blond-haired boy. He attended St. I-lyacinth's grade school from which he graduated in Iune 1944. Skippy en- tered D. H.
