A TIME FOR HONORING This annual is dedicated to Mrs. Betty Neubauer. Mrs. Neubauer has taught vocal music in our school since 1954. Her retirement will leave a void that will be difficult to fill. Her presence in our school has brought joys to untold hundreds of students and parents. We wish her much happiness in the future and may she have fond memories of her teaching in Dunkerton. The annual staff changed over to a different program this year. The change over included getting the pictures to the right specifications and glueing them in place. This was previously done by the printer. The year has been a series of trials and errors. It took a lot more work but where there's a will there’s a way. 28 Jack Swanson, Greg Walker, Elaine Westendorf, Mona Cummings, Mandy Gerrans, Editor--Diane Stone, Pat Fettkether, Melody Warren, Sponsor--Mrs. Schmidt, Lela Smith, Pam Nelson, Jolene Bartholomew, Diane Sadler, Kathy Wheat, Liz Wheeler, Jackie Davis, Julie Magee, Marge Schares, Laurel Schiller, Co-editor--Colleen Jump, LuAnn Chapman, Vicki Hewitt, Robin Wachal. MIRROR STAFF Last summer Diane Stone, editor of the Mirror, attended a newspaper workshop at Ames. She came home with several new ideas for the paper. Among these are: using white paper, not colored; having three columns instead of two; and not using a large picture on the front page. She also used the idea of giving the elementary teachers a news sheet on which to write their stories, and incorporating all elementary news into one story. Editor Diane Stone and Co-editor Colleen Jump keep especially busy around mailing time. 29 FUTURE TEACHER'S OF AMERICA First Row: Mrs. Scott, Barb Schmidt, Penne Shatzer, Penny Nichols, Nancy Steffen, Helen Sadler. The vocal department furnished more music after the band concert. It resulted as a success and will probably become an annual event. THE GRIDIRON TEAM This past season was not the most successful in Dunkerton football history, yet this team could be characterized as a group of young men who never quit although many times it would have been the easiest thing to do. They were determined to do their best at all times regardless of the team they were playing or the score of the game. Jeff Thompson tackles a warrior. He led the team in tackles with 110. He was on First Team All-Conference as a linebacker. He-was also on Oelwein's All-Registerland Team. 61 F t ny p - r'Sf . 4 ' t 1 if A A V The lower right hand picture is the Raider line up before the Homecoming game. Mr. Smith spots for Bill Delegardelle, who is doing a head stand on the saddle. Another student works on a forward flip. Here one of the many saddle vaults is demonstrated. Back Row: Coach Smith, Elsie Dorsey, Tina Gamerdinger, Lela Smith, Lora Smith, Connie Chase, Rhonda Rigdon. Softball at Dunkerton has been steadily improving the last couple of seasons. The girls have been competing well and winning a few of their games. Hard practice on hot summer days and dedicated athletes is finally beginning to pay off. We had a good mixture of young players; Kathy Mills (outfielder), Liz Wheeler (pitcher), Sally Schemmel (outfielder), Lois Bartholomew (first base), and good experienced players Elsie Dorsey (catcher), Connie Chase (short stop). These fine players combine to make a good, well rounded ball team. 76 Lois gives Sally the signal for home. Sally gets another out. Lois waiting for the throw. Liz demonstrates her winning pitch.
