jHistorg of tlje (Elass of ’60 As the class of 60 entered Dunkerton Community School in the fall of 56, we looked through the window and saw, stretched before us, four long years of hard work before our ultimate goal, graduation, could be attained. To guide our class’s efforts throughout our first year, Don Happel, Carolyn Miller, Sonja Clubine, Dave Root, and Gene Anderson were elected as class officers. The highlight of the year was our initiation. Entering our sophomore year, Gene Maurer was elected President, with Carolyn Miller, Kris Shimp, Jim Weber, and Don Happel assisting. Most of us completed our driving instructions and received our driver’s licenses. We had a wonderful time and eagerly looked forward to our junior year. We began in earnest to build up our treasury for the Junior-Senior Prom. We window-washed, car-washed, had candy and bake sales, and in the spring we gave our play, “The Bus Stops Here”. The Junior-Senior Prom was with us! The long-planned for event was a wonderful success under the guidance of our advisors, Mrs. Richard Crowe and Mr. Waligorski. Our capable class officers, Don Happel, Sonja Clubine, Joan Knebel, Bonita Greenley, and John Sewick also helped us. Our theme “Chez Paree left a lasting impression on all of us. The highlight of the Prom was the crowning of the royalty with Sharon Greenley, Queen; Darrell Heilmann, King; Darlene Salisbury, Princess, and Duane Rigdon, Prince. The long-awaited year is here! We are now “the seniors”. September, 59, found us electing Evelyn Fox as our class President, with Gene Maurer, Duane Rigdon, Joan Knebel, and MikeRiordan assisting. We also had the pleasure of initiating the freshmen. Our senior play, “Grandma’s Best Years”, came next on the agenda, finally topped off by two days off for selling Mirror ads and Yearbook ads. We think we have lived up to our class motto: “Don’t equal it; better it.” Our class colors are blue and white, and our class flower is the American Beauty Rose. As we donned our caps and gowns and marched across the stage, we realized that this was truly a commencement—another milestone of life, passed.
