GIRLS SPUHTS Sports have always been an important part of our school life. The senior girls have always participated in them. Our freshmen year saw our class not doing so well. In our sophomore year, the class of '48 were so good, there was no beating them. By the time we were Juniors, we were Qwe thoughtj really good. I don't know what happened to the class of '48 but we won every game we played. This year, we also won the softball championship. We are fair this year, but not what we were a year ago. When we were sophomores, we began having playdays in basketball. Dundee won the championship. Softball and volleyball were added in our Junior year. We won basketball and came in second in volleyball. Playing two games of softball with Odessa, we lost one and won one. Track was also added and the Dundee girls won. We haven't had any playdays yet this year but we are looking forward to them with much eagerness. The basketball tournament which is going on at the present time stands as follows: class won lost Freshmen O 5 Sophomores 3 2 Juniors 5 l Seniors 3 l We haven't finished the tournament yet but there are several good teams. The winner would be hard to choose as the yearbook goes to press so good luck to everybody. The senior class wants to express admi- ration where admiration is due. This admi- ration goes to the Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors, they all have swell teams and swell girls with whom to play. We wish you much success in the coming years when we are not here. HCTIVITIES x x', if T if I KX' :Q J pm J Q53 Ce-5' 'rx There have been many enjoyable activities throughout this school year. Members of the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Senior classes have participated in their indi- vidual class activities. First we'll take a glance at those fresh, young Fresh- men. Fbr them, it was starting out their fun with a glori- ous hayride on a beautiful night in October. Most of their class went and also some invited guests. Refreshments were enjoyed by the nHay-ridersn following their ride. They have added 616.00 to their treasury so far this year. We are looking forward to seeing the Freshmen play which will be coming soon.' This takes us up to see what the Sophiclated Sophomores have been doing. They also started out with a hayrlde in October--seems to be quite the sport this year. This class is getting rich pretty fast now for they are selling paper, pencils, erasers, and such school supplies in the corridors before school and during the noon hour. They tell me they are gaining on the profit. The Sophomores also will present us with an entertaining assembly program scheduled for April 8th this year. This is the class in which Johnny Cadwell has been known to us as nElmer' in their play series. The Stanton girls, Jane Kleckler, and the rest of the play cast put on these comedy plays like real actors. The Sophomore class surely can do it so we'l1 be looking for your play again this year. The rival Juniors! Hayride? Of course! Everyone else had one, why couldn't they? They switched theirs over into November. They made much profit this year selling Christmas Cards. This is the rich class! They got their classy Jr. rings this ear too We ho e to see the annual Junior play Y - D and hope it will be a big success. We are also looking for- ward for our Junior Prom in May. This is the dance of which Miss Carolyn Hall was queen last year, remember? Good luck and best wishes to the Junior Class. Here we are! At the top of the list-is our mighty Senior Class--we think. This has been a busy year for us. Of course, I must tell you first of all that we had a hay- ride in October! Yes, this was much fun. To remind you we really-did have one, I bring to your minds a girl who went around with two black eyes and a swollen forehead and nose. The only hay-ride casualty, Alice Griswold. We then had a square dance here at the school with a new orchestra, the nTuney Rhythm Makers.n We had a big crowd and lots of fun. We d1dn't make as much as we expected, but a lot of hard work by the Seniors put the dance over. We have sold Ever- sharp pencils in our school colors, Christmas wreaths, and beautiful napkins. We really made a profit on the napkins. Then came our Senior play under the direction of Mrs. Utter. The play nN1ght of January l6th,n put on the nights of Nov. 18th and 19th was much different from any put on in Dundee. It was a courtroom play with a jury selected' lfrom names in a boxj from the audience each of the two nights. The play cast really put on a swell job. 'The bored judge, AldenChad- wick, was really swell. The two attorneys were nD1ckn Petersen, prosecuting attorney, and nDickW Bailey, defense attorney. nPeggyH Wells, posing as Karen Andre, was the de- fepdent on trial for her life. She was found not-guilty the first night, and guilty the next night. The Junior play, put GC Q ar Z3 ,p 9 .r fr 1 X69 on by this same class last year was also a great success. The Seniors are looking forward to their trip to New York. Right now they are busy working on their 'Highlander,n Senior Ball and other activities to come during the year. The Senior Class thanks Mr. Witter for his invaluable service in making our yearbook successful. We, also, thank Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. Morse, our advisors, for their great cooperation throughout the year. Good luck to our fellow classmates. 25 Peggy Wells

lfli t Q. UW ' 25 BUUS SPURTS The boy's sports were very interesting this year. The season was started with foot- ball. 'Killer' LoVette was on the team, so they won only one game for the season, but the games were better played then the scores indicated. They should have a very good team next yearss they willhave most of the players back from this year except 'K1ller.' Rah-Rah- Rah. Basketball came in dueseason with a team showing promise in the first four of five games. Then a bit of bad luck set in for a spell. However,Aud Chadwick kept getting his twenty or more points per game. He had well over two hundred for the season. The rest of the team played well even Red Woodard. He would have done much better had it not been for evening competition from Bigelow Avenue. The team took third place in the league standings. nB1lln, that tow-headed Junior Knot a Senior! ought to make the team next year if he puts forth a lot of hard practice. The team was chosen to play Newark in the class nAn sectionals but lost to their worthy and more superior opponents. Wixson would be a better athletic if he stayed home insteadof being seen on Main Street about every night. The Volleyball team is now beginning their season on the court. They have lost one practice game but they are improving with each practice. If Bill 'Moose' leinen could jump higher without an encouraging prod from Mr. Alger's tie pin, he would be an excellent addition to the volleyball team. The track and baseball season have not begun as yet. Hbwever, this reporter believes that there are good possibilities this year for these two teams in spite of a loss ofteam mates due to graduation last year. interclass sports Throughout the year have been under way. The Seniors have lead points. The big the race for championship dane they call 'Pete' has helped us to many wins. He was supported by the fighting cour- age of the entire senior male population. Che day each week is set aside during the winter season for boys wishing to bowl. It has proved good exercise and lots of fun. Do you think Ed Hunt will ever get over '98'? He is trying hard to tie 'Slim' Margeson who bowls a sizzling game of lOl when he is lucky. Good luck to all the teams. Boy's Sports Editor Howard Campbell
