Iacobs, who is completing his thirty-first year of educational leadership in this community. Previously principal of Dundee Community High School District No. 217 for 8 years. sub- sequently superintendent and principal of District No. 2l7 for 14 years, Mr. Iacobs has now completed 9 years as superintendent of District No. 300 which he pioneered in l948. At that time, alert to new state legislation in regard to school finance, he foresaw tre- mendous advantages in the unit organiza- tion: tll it would provide a much larger pro- portion of state money for local school sup- port, Q25 it would eliminate double taxation common to dual districts, C35 it would pro- vide more specialized services, such as health and speech correction without dupli- cation of personnel, f4l it would provide an equal opportunity for children at all levels of instruction, since, under a dual system, the elementary districts-which had more of the childrenvhad the same tax limit as the high school district. Although in recent years the school hous- ing program has been more in the public mind, perhaps, than other phases of educa- tion locally, Mr. lacobs has, through the years, given his utmost attention to all fac- tors in the general problem of education. He has constantly been a firm advocate of equal and adequate opportunities for all the children, regardless of age level, resi- dence location, aptitude, and inclination, he has built up an outstanding program of home visitation by teachers, and of general close relationship with the home, he has been insistent on completion of highschool graduation as a minimum for all students, he has been a believer in a balance between curricular and extra-curricular activities, and an advocate of balance between the athletic and non-athletic types of extra-curricular activities, he has worked out a thorough in- tegration of a strong academic and a strong vocational program, and he has promoted and developed probably the strongest schol- astic honors and citizenship awards program in this part of the country. W'e look forward with confidence and en- thusiastic inspiration to a New Era of edu- cational leadership under Mr, Iacobs whose 31 years here have been so full of fine ac- complishrnent. rw, I
