D. Iacobs, who is completing his thirty-first year of educational leadership in this community. Previously principal of Dundee Community High School District No. 217 for 8 years. sub- sequently superintendent and principal of District No. 2l7 for 14 years, Mr. Iacobs has now completed 9 years as superintendent of District No. 300 which he pioneered in l948. At that time, alert to new state legislation in regard to school finance, he foresaw tre- mendous advantages in the unit organiza- tion: tll it would provide a much larger pro- portion of state money for local school sup- port, Q25 it would eliminate double taxation common to dual districts, C35 it would pro- vide more specialized services, such as health and speech correction without dupli- cation of personnel, f4l it would provide an equal opportunity for children at all levels of instruction, since, under a dual system, the elementary districts-which had more of the childrenvhad the same tax limit as the high school district. Although in recent years the school hous- ing program has been more in the public mind, perhaps, than other phases of educa- tion locally, Mr. lacobs has, through the years, given his utmost attention to all fac- tors in the general problem of education. He has constantly been a firm advocate of equal and adequate opportunities for all the children, regardless of age level, resi- dence location, aptitude, and inclination, he has built up an outstanding program of home visitation by teachers, and of general close relationship with the home, he has been insistent on completion of highschool graduation as a minimum for all students, he has been a believer in a balance between curricular and extra-curricular activities, and an advocate of balance between the athletic and non-athletic types of extra-curricular activities, he has worked out a thorough in- tegration of a strong academic and a strong vocational program, and he has promoted and developed probably the strongest schol- astic honors and citizenship awards program in this part of the country. As a veteran ot the tirst world war, he is a member ot the American legion, and in World War ll headed the US.O. drive in this area. He was a charter member ol the Dundee Township Lions Club, was their tirst Secretary, is a Past President, and Past District Cabinet Secretary. tfle has been Secretary ol the Little Seven Conference many years, President ot the Conference, member ot the Northern lllinois Superintendents' Study Club, member ol the lllinois Association of School Administrators, and a member of the American Association ot School Administrators. He belongs to Phi Delta Kappa, national honorary educational fraternity. lle is a member ot First Methodist Church, Dundee, and has held many ot its offices ln i923 he married Punice Wolfe, a graduate ot Chia Wesleyan Univer- sity They have three children all ol whom have graduated trom Dundee lliah school --and tour grandchildren Rolland L. Moar, faculty member for 28 years, pre- senting corsage to Mrs. Iacobs, and Lord Elgin watch and band to Mr. Iacobs, at a banquet given by the District Teachers' Association to honor Mr. Iacobs for 31 years ot edu- cational leadership. Kiburz Although Mr. Kiburz is completing only his first year at Dundee High as senior high school principal, students will be interested to know that he has come to us with considerable experience as teacher, administrator, and military officer. He Was graduated from high school at Casey, lll., and attended the State University of lllinois where he received his degree of Bachelor of Science in Education with college honors in 1934. He received his degree of Master of Science in Education at the same university in l95U. He has been a member of the lllinois High School Legislative Commission, has spent 5 years as principal of Litchfield, lllinois, High School, and had previously been a classroom teacher in Highland and Roseville, lllinois. He served 9 years as a commissioned officer of the U. S. Army in the Pacific, Mediterran- ean, and European theaters of the second World 'Warp in which he was successively ROTC instructor, company officer, staff officer, special service officer, and lastly, military government officer in Occupied Germany. On behalf of the student body, the Cardunal Staff welcomes Mr. and Mrs. Kiburz and their 4 children to the school and the community, and is already aware of their constructive influence and helpfulness at school, in civic and church affairs, and in community life. Our class officers were Donald Sharp, president, Bob Dobler, vice- presidentg Dick Suchy, secretary, and Merrill lohnson, treasurer. Our eighth-grade officers were ferry Lindsey, president, Merrill lohnson, vice-president, Barb Spalding, secretary, and Dick Suchy, treasurer Merrill lohnson, president, ferry Lindsey, vice-president, Lynn Nesbit. sec- retary, and Don Sharp, treasurer, the officers during our Freshman year, gave us our first real class party November lil. Our Sophomore party, which was called the Bunny Hop, was lanuary 30. Our officers were Fred Schultz, presidentg Barb Spalding, vice-president, lanice lurs, secretary, and Dick Suchy, treasurer. Our first upper-classmen year, our lunior year, was high-lighted with the prom during May at the Old Hickory, called 'Carnival Capers, our losten class rings, and our play l'Arsenic and Old Lace. Our officers were Bob Dobler, president, Donna Hubbard, vice-president, Lynn Nesbit, secretaryg and Barb Spalding, treasurer. As Seniors in l956 we elected as officers, Dick Suchy, president, Glenn Plauck, vice-president, Barb Spalding, secretary, and Len Saunders, treasurer. We ended our life at DCI-IS with a Senior-lunior party in lanuary, a prom at Itasca, and a play called Lo and Behold, 16 IU -rw? Having come through one year successfully, we again elected Len Frost, president, Musette Ryan, vice-president, Carol Schubert, secretary, and Larry Kenneke, treasurer. ln our freshman year we held our first real social dance to the music of the Rhythm Kings and all had a wonderful time. The officers who helped plan our dance were Len Frost, president, Carol Schubert, vice-president, Mike Foote, secretary, and Donna Rienking, treasurer. No one was prouder than we were when We entered our sophomore year and elected Milce Fritz, president, Len Frost, vice-president, Tom King, secre- tary, and Carol Kruger, treasurer. Here We are juniors-A year long to be remembered. We worked hard, but also had lots of fun doing it. Accomplishments of our hard work were the prom on Iune l at the ltasca Country Club, and our lunior Class Play, 'Buttered Side Up, in February.
