DEDICATION TO FREEDOM Believing that our school can and should play some part in the present crisis in which America is taking the lead for democracy against communism, the staff and sponsor of the 1952 Carduncxl of Dundee Community High School are tak- ing as the theme for this year's book, The 5 Freedoms. ln his message to congress on lanuary fl, l94l, just eleven years previous to the day this copy was Written, President Franklin D, Roosevelt said that 4 Free- doms should be the basis of the settle- ment to be made after World War ll. These four freedoms he defined as free- dom from want, freedom from fear, free- dom of Worship, and freedom of speech, President Roosevelt implied that these freedoms could be made possible for all people everywhere if Hitler and Mussolini were defeated. I There are, of course, many freedoms that make up our American heritage to- day-all of those mentioned in our Dec- laration of lndependence, The Constitution and its first lO amendments called the Bill of Rights, freedom of private enterprise, and in general, the Freedom To Be Free, but the Cardunal Staff feels that the above-mentioned 4 Freedoms, plus one more that is very important to us as stu- dents, Freedom Of Education, form a large part of the basis for our struggle for the 'American Way today, and, there- fore, we dedicate our book to a happy and successful victory for our country and the other democracies of the World in their titanic struggle against Russian Commu- nism, and we pledge ourselves to uphold the ideals of these 5 Freedoms and all our other traditional American freedoms as We take our part as citizens in the time to come.

BOARD OF EDUCATICN The Cardunal staff believes that a board of educa- tion exemplifies several American freedoms at Work. No national bureaucracy appoints personnel or dictates policy.
