But in our minds no confusion exists, no excuses for changing the school rings, the tradition- al April prom date, or the regular high school yearbook size. lVe have not been afraid to try something new, to stand up lor a principle in which we believe. Looking over our record, we feel success has been ours in all of our ventures. XVC note with pride the key to this success has been originality. 'We found that it definitely takes more than students and teachers Much thanks and appreciation go to those members of the administration who have helped us outside of the classroom. Mrs. Huey's friendly smile brightened the reserved atmosphere of our library. Always ready with a good recommendation, she tried hard to get us to read in- teresting books and magazines. The financial support of the P.T.A. enabled us to acquire many things needed to make our school career more profitable and pleasant. Under the leader- ship of Mr. Robert hlones, president, the P.T.A. was one of the most active groups in school and com- munity life. Patience was the main virtue of Miss Delores Ying- ling and Miss XVanda Middleton. It was not easy for them to perform the different office duties required of good secretaries and answer the inquiries of every stu- dent who visited the office each day. Mrs. Finfera's cheerful disposition was the best cure for any ailment we ever had. However, in very serious cases, her training as a registered nurse proved to be invaluable. Every day Mrs. Doelfel was faced with a seemingly endless rush of hungry people. Those of us who ate in the cafeteria were always pleased with the variety of food she had so skillfully planned. l3 :UK PQ Quick, watch that pin! XVhose got the tacks? You're standing on my picture! Formulas and fundamentals crowded our minds as highlights of the academic struggle. Projects and proofs were our main con- cern. Through the jungle of numbers, we managed to achieve solutions. The Council worked hard to pro- vide activities which the student body would enjoy and support. Vice Principal Brown was the group's adviser. The judicial branch of the Court functioned very effectively. Being summoned before the Stu- dent Court was no laughing matter. Condemmed students were usually impressed with the fairness demonstrated during the trial. Chief Judge Richard Hill and his associates studied each case carefully. Mr. Pearson was court sponsor. The school monitors represented the long arm of the law. Fulfilling the job of a monitor meant more than coming to class late and leaving early. The senior lilled team show- ed more talent and class than their positions indicated. Beside scorers like Irwin and YViltsey, we sported such players as Norman XViggles XVeaver, Set Shot Lenderman, Jack Davis, Carl Irwin, Bob Owens, Ron Mfartman, Joel Bailey, -lack Banashak, and Muscles Shagena. An indication ol' the team's strength is the fact that all five of the games lost were lost by a total of only 18 points. Another important factor is that Kenwood, the league leader, beat us by only three points in both g2lIl'leS. Making their best showing against Towson and Franklin, the Owls set a school scoring record by drop- ping 73 points through the hoops against the latter. Commenting on this year's team, Coach Grantz said, I'm still not convinced that we didn't have the best team in the county. For some reason there were flowers and green grass growing on every blackboard. Everyone listenedg but we couldn't hear a word the teacher said. It was funny how you could hear a robin singing, even when the windows were closed. Yes, we found it was hard to keep our minds on anything but flowers, Easter, proms, and love. Everyone walked around in a daze. But we be- came remarkably brilliant, for we found there was only one possible answer to every question - spring. However, we had a little trouble convinc- ing the teachers of the sensibility of this discovery. Everything was fine, until we were sharply shocked back to reality. Yes, the teachers found a way to regain their control through the magic word - exams. With a stellar midfield, a fast attack and a rough and ready defense, Coach Pearson looked for an ex- ceptional season this year. The Owls captured second place in the county loop last year but hoped to improve on that record during this year's regular season. XVith an attack comprised of Ron XVartman, Aloe Mayhew and -Iimmy Patanella, Coach Pearson had a first alignment featuring exceptional speed, aggressiveness and a wide array of shots. When George Irwin was injured during a spring practice session, his spot on the crease was ably filled by Patanella. A second team was composed of Arnold Knight, Ken Munski and Gary YVomer. The mid- field corps were bolstered by the talents of Harvey Yviltsey, Don Subrink and Harvey Brandau. The midfield worked exceptionally well together and accounted for the majority of the goals scored. This team was backed up by an aggregation consisting of Doug Ludwig, Larry McLean and Cleve Vetter. One of the highlights of the season was the out- standing performance of a dogged defensive align- ment. The first team of Duck Sulewski, Ted Kyte and Pat Maegher frequently shook up the opposing attack. Tom Ronci, Ford Iidwards and Frank Clhesic made up the second team. This defense was one of the heaviest in Dundalk's stick history, averaging almost two hundred pounds per man. In all, great things were expected of a game Owl squad. stickmen prepare for Campaign Lacrosse team members are: first rout, left to righl: Arnold hew, Doug Ludwig, and Pat Meagher.
