Egg drop is a smashing time Duncan's first ever Egg Drop and Bridge Building Contest was held this year on March 24. Sponsored by Mrs. Arnett and Mrs. Lunt, the contest was used to promote students' interest in science, math, and engineering technology. The contestants were required to load a raw egg into a package of their design measuring no more than five inches on each side. Eleven eager DHS students participated in the Egg Drop Contest and one in the Bridge Building Contest. They drew an enthusiastic crowd of Duncan High School students as spectators. With all eyes on Mr. Payne, the honorary egg-smasher and bridge-buster, the eggs were dropped from increasing heights up to 24 feet. Most of the eggs survived the fall on the lawn from the highest point of Mr. Clarigde's fork-lift. So Mr. Payne had to relocate himself to the top of the gym complex. From there he dropped and then threw the packages with great force onto the concrete sidewalk, until all were broken. Henry Ratliff's egg was the last to survive the torture. He had his egg rolled in plastic bubble-wrap and he enclosed the bundle in a five inch box. Jimmy Bell's egg came in second with Aletha Word's coming in third. All contestants did a good job in protecting their egg. They were packed in everything from lamb's wool to sawdust and foam rubber. Vern Brown had fhe only entry in the Bridge Building Contest. His model of ice cream sticks withheld the maximum of 205 pounds before being crushed. Henry Ratliff and his prize-winning egg 8 Mr. Downs piles on the weights to test Vern's bridge.

Juniors set out to dazzle with prom decor The 1988 Prom was a spectacular event. Duncan's Junior class went to great extremes to present the Seniors with a classy dance set. with big city lights and a dazzling, modern motif of couples dancing. The Junior class selected the theme Honestly , which is also a very popular song by Stryper, a Christian rock group. Red, black, and white streamers formed a canopy over the dancers, and confetti littered the dance floor. The Prom King and Queen attentendents were: Thomas Montoya, Roger Rodriguez, Frank Leuenberg, Kevin Chavez, Kathy Goyer, Eileen Bejarano, Teresa Sanchez, and Lyanna Pena. The excitement peaked when Lyanna Pena and Roger Rodriguez were crowned the 1988 Prom Royalty. A short program featured the reading of Junior class wills and Senior class prophecies, and refreshments of cake and punch were served. The deejays take a breather while Junior and Senior Class representatives read wills and prophecies Above. Russell Hendricks gets ready to deliver the punch- line These Prom-goers are having a great time, Honestly , 10
