Death of SU TH H1 CI' Saddening the summer of 1973 at its beginning was the death on June 24 of Mrs. Mildred Clark who had been Duncans eighth grade teacher from 1943 to 1964. Many DHS alumni re- membered her as a kind teacher yet firm and efficient. Duncan remembered the operettas she directed for many years. Like her husband, W.M., and their son Bill, Mrs. Clark was a Duncan High graduate, Mr. Clark was a school board mem- ber for 17 yearsg and the Clark Mercantile began serving the 'fl' Duncan Valley in 1909. ' po Mr. and Mrs. Clark enjoy visiting at retirement party ofJ.W. Santee in l970. Some people did nothingg others worked, studied, traveled. They attended cheerleader and music camps, andjoined sports programs. Before school began, teams were practicing, teachers were planningg the student council were discussing events for the year. Yearbooks came in during the second week of school, and memories were revived. Football and volleyball games began in Septemberg the photog- rapher came for individual pic- turesg class schedules were final- izedg the juniors ordered their class ringsg WILDKAT sales- men were selling adsg there were pom pon tryouts, TB skin tests, an FFA judging trip. Clubs were urging members to pay their dues!

Who can guess how many fingers pounded typewriter keys? How many turned in budgets? How many drew and painted pictures? How many feet pounded the tennis courts and the volleyball lloor during the 43 years when Mr. Clothier was preparing students lor life and business, laying down his rules and enforcing themg winning games and tournaments? lt would be hard to count the grateful students who visited him over the years to thank him for setting a good example and maintaining high standards in the courses he taught and the sports he loved and coached. Well, let the WILDKAT say for all: Thank you, Mr. Clothier. We wish you Godspeed and happy retirement. We will not forget you.
