J . 7 K s vfi X X4-X R My 1' HX -5 fimveworcl After wrestling long hours with the fickle gods who govern the actions of the student editors, we of the Smoke- ring Staff have decided upon the motif for the 1947-48 edition. As usual from the earliest beckonings of September to the long awaited release of an expiring May, the events of Duncan High School have been concerned with and sym- bolized by a series of holidays, dates, and festive occasions. Some of these special days, such as Labor Day, Thanksgiv- ing, Christmas, and New Years, have universal and quite obvious meanings. Others hold complete significance and appropriateness only if interpreted through the medium of D. H. S. tradition. The first event, of course, in every school year is the en- rollment represented by Labor Dayg the last events are May Day which depicts the final sports events of the year and Mothers' Day represented by our Senior Mothers. In between we find most of the remaining holidays symbolizing the scho- lastic and extra-curricular activities, such as clubs, athletics, honors, and social events. Disrexgarding fas usualj the sage suggestions concerning the nomination for the dedication, we took the matter into our own hands and turned the fig- urative tables. Because of her endless patience, con- stant toil beyond requirements of duty, and the resistance of the urge to throttle approximately forty per cent of the edi- tors, we dedicate the IQ48 Smokerings to our sponsor, Mrs. Olive Stewart.
