CDR. ERNEST F. TEDESCHI, JR. COMMANDING OFFICER Commander Ernest F. Tedeschi, Jr., a native of New Britain, Connecticut, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1965. Upon commissioning he reported to USS BUCK (DD-761) in San Diego, California as 1st LT. In January of 1967 he joined the precommissioning of USS RAMSEY (FFG-2J at Lockheed Shipyard, Seattle, Washington as ASW Officer. Following this and a tour as Flag LT for COMCRUDESFLOT 9, Commander Tedeschi attended the U.S. Naval Destroyer School in April 1970 before reporting to USS BROWNSON (DD-868) as Weapons Officer. In October 1972 he was assigned to the staff of the Naval Destroyer School as an instructor in ASW Systems Weapons. This was followed by a tour as a student at the Naval War College, Command and Staff Course, and then to USS GRIDLEY (CG-21J as weapons Officer. In 1977 Commander Tedeschi reported to USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG-32) as Executive Officer. His most recent assignment was as Head of Surface Missile Evaluation for Oper- ational Test and Evaluation Force, Pacific. Commander Tedeschi ' s decorations include the Navy Commendation Med- al along with other campaign and service decorations. Commander Tedeschi is married to the former Christine DiEleuterio of Trenton, New Jersey. The Tedeschis currently reside in San Pedro, California with their daughter Gina and son Ernest.

CDR ROSS D. BARKER COMMANDING OFFICER Commander Ross D. Barker was born in Englewood, New Jersey. Commissioned in November 1963, he was ordered to the USS DAMATO (DD-871) where he served in the Engineering and Weapons Departments until August 1965. He entered the Naval Destroyer School in September 1965 and upon completion augment- ed from U.S. Naval Reserve to Regular U.S. Navy and reported aboard USS GEARING (DD-710) where he served as the Weapons Officer. From March 1968 to March 1969 Commander Barker served on the Staff of Commander Costal Surveillance Force (PCE-880) in Sheybogan, Wisconsin from April 1969 to July 1970. His next tour as a Detailer in the Bureau of Naval Personnel until assigned as Flag Lieutenant for Commander U.S. SIXTH FLEET in August 1972. In June 1975 he completed studies at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He then served as Executive Officer of USS BRUMBY (FF-1044J. Prior to his assignment as Commanding Officer of the USS DUNCAN (FFG-10) Commander Barker served as Aide Assignment Officer in the Naval Military Personnel Command. Commander Barker wears the Bronze Star Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Presi- dential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation and various campaign and service medals. Commander Barker is married to the former Barbara Maski of Jersey City, New Jer- sey; they have two children Rhett, and Vanessa.

LCDR. GARY S. NELSON EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Nelson graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1969 with a B.S. in Business Administration and received his commission via the NROTC program. Lieutenant Commander Nelson ' s initial assignment was in USS Chevlier (DD-805) where he served as Combat Information Center Officer. Upon completion of the Destroy- er Department Head course in Newport, Rhode Island he reported to USS McKEAN (DD-784) as Weapons Officer and later assumed duties as Operations Officer. In August 1973 he reported to USS Tuscaloosa {LST-1187) as Engineer Officer. From March 1975 to March 1977 Lieutenant Commander Nelson was a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California where he received a Masters of Science degree in Systems Technology. He returned to sea as Commanding Officer, USS Hitchiti (ATF-103) and served as such until the ship was decommissioned in September 1978. His assignment prior to reporting to USS Duncan was as Director of Officer Programs Recruiting and Ex- ecutive Officer at Navy Recruiting District, San Francisco, California. Lieutenant Commander Nelson wears the Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars lieu of a second and third award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense, Vietnam service. Sea Service and Vietnam campaign medal. He is married to the former Mary Wilbert of Anoka, Minnesota. They have four chil- dren; Christine, Steven, Brian and Jon.
