R DIVISICDN R Division, commonly known as the fresh air snipes can be subdivided into three main groups, auxiliary gang, electrician gang, and repair gang. You've seen them in action. Remember Robinson showing those academy award winning flicks like Frankenstein lVlust Be Destroyed . Well, the IC men in their spare time maintain the movie equipment, all internal communications equipment and the gyro compass, to mention a few of their responsibilities. Considering only two men have been in IC gang it amounts to a difficult task. A gang can be stereotyped by Winchester standing in the motor whale boat with a 16 pound hammer trying to get it to start. But what about the equipment and conveniences personnel take for granted. Compressed air for the guns, electricity in an emergency, cold water from a scuttle butt or just a clean shirt from the new laundry equipment. The electricians designed and built strobe lights for their newly acquired shop and developed some unique ideas in sounds for the shop, however, they accomplished other work also. lVlost men take for granted the electrical power required to operate their equipment or needed for their shavers or radios anytime day or night. One evening Van Wallingham found himself breaking into the ,crypto room to save the day for those who locked themselves out. This is a typical task for the group of men in R gang who supply these needed services. Ensuring the material ability of the ship to meet any disaster is a responsibility of A gang also. To the men of R Division, congratulations on a job greatly appreciated and well done.
