PLANE GUARD A FAIVIILIAR VIEW - CVA 66,THE USS AMERICA NOW STATION THE HELO DETAIL AGAIN Steaming hard at 27 knots while travel- ing in the yawning wakes of the fIeet's big aircraft carriers, DUNCAN spent many long days plane guarding. Her men were ready at a minutes notice to rise to the emer- gency that could mean life to a dovvned flyer. IVIen watched with vvonder, as the screeching jets streaked overhead and landed on the steady decks of the monster carriers.

NOFS During the cruise, DUNCAN had 2 periods on the gun line where she expended almost 5,000 rounds on enemy targets. All hands quickly became accustomed to the sound of DUNCAN's mounts firing 24 hrs. a day. When not actually firing, the men would be kept-busy re-arming and re-fueling. DUNCAN came through these long weary days with excellent results. Well done to all hands! A NIT 53 LOAD 84 SHOOT PLOT SPOTS, NO CHANGE
