For Ii Engineering, this event marked the start of a near-perfect seven months of operation for the . . h engineering plant. But machinery alone cannot account for such success. Every man in t e department pitched in his share of the work load in this team effort. The following pages present the men of Engineering who made it possible. I I LTJG T.w. SOUTHWORTH LTJG R.B. M During the period of this deployment, KM Division has propelled the ship in excess of 42,000 miles and has produced almost three million gallons of fresh Water. To accomplish this the men of M Division have at times worked in excess of 100 degree temperatures for periods of 12 hours per day or more. About the only thing that can be done to improve the foregoing working conditions is for M Division to unionize or for the ship to stay in port permanently. However, neither event appears likely.
