During our stay in the Gulf ot Tonkin, we were at General Quarters a great deal of the time. Here the Quartermasters assumed the role as the eyes of the ship, taking stations as the Lee Helmsman, Helmsman, and Quartermaster of the watch. A Navigating team was keeping the Captain informed as to the ships position and maintained the ships log, a minute by minute accvunt ot all the shi s act' . Th p ions e signalmen were busy receiving and sending tactical signals both by tlaghoist and by flashing light. They also assisted in manning the titty caliber machine guns. The Radiomen manned their General Quarters stations in Radio Cenfrql Gnd The Auxiliary Radio spaces.
