TRIBUTE This Tribute was written by Homer F. Lucas, Post Staff Writer of the Salisbury Evening Post. It is being reprinted by special permission of the Salisbury Post. JOHN F. KENNEDY, A GREAT MAN John F. Kennedy was truly a great man. He was a just man. He was a man who believed all men were equal in the sight of God. He was a man of peace. He was a man determined, with all his soul and body, the ravages of war would never again befall mortal man. He was a man of love. He was a man born to riches. He was a man who loved the ordinary man, like you and me. He was a man of courage. He was a man who was the butt of ridicule and nasty jokes as he displayed his courage. He was a man of power. He was a man who never wielded, as history will evaluate, this power unjustly. He was more than mere man to the men of the free-world. He was hope, a symbol. He was a man who gave so much of himself to the people of the world. He was a man of principle. He was a kindly man. He was a man of easy formality. He was a man, above all, of magnificent heart. He was a man who has passed into a new world from which no traveler, but one, has returned. Butthe world which he loved and served remains. There are times in life when time stands still. Now is such time. The men of the free-wo rid, the men of love, the men of peace, and the men of courage are groping in darkness for the light. But the light is there in the principles and beliefs of John F. Kennedy, a truly great man. 4
