“PR OPI-IEC Y It was 1958 The super1ntendent and founder of the Home for Homeless Insects sat pettlng h1s favor1te horse fly and dreamlng of the days when ne was young handsome and the Beau Brummel of Durnont I-hgh Superlntendent Floyd Clemens shuddered as he remembered the wasted years when h1s beloved xnsects roamed the earth without a soul to Care for them The greemsh gl1nt of the horse fly s eyes remlnded Floyd of the g1r1 who sat across from hxm ln the study hall at school Suddenly he was semzed w1th the desxre to see h1s old classmates He wxshed to talk over old tlmes and f1nd out what the years had done to them or for them Now Floyd was always a man of actxon and he never conce1ved an xdea wlth out carrylng 1t out lmmedlately He and h1s wlfe jo Ann Bronsema who because of her love of nurslng had become a lady veterlnarlan but gave It up to help Floyd wxth h1s xnsects sent out 1nv1tat1ons The Class of 1948 was to have a reumon at a Gypsy Tea Room called La Dlschord whlch was operated by Mr Hanawalt the mus1c teacher from Dumont Hlgh As jo Ann and Floyd entered the tea room the Gypsy orchestra was playlng a hauntlng rendltlon of Don t walt up for me Mother I m a senlor now Leadlng the orchestra was Mr Hanawalt who cut a very fetching f1gure ln h1s colorful Ro No sooner were they seated when who should dash up to them but Dorothea Van Rlper I am Madam Zonga, she sald and do I rake 1n the dough telling fortunes! I ll cut the prlce for you because of old tlmes Before they could have thelr fortunes told, the orchestra played a rurnba The groups was astomshed to see Dawn Plper and Le Roy Lupkes doing a mean step on the crowded dance floor' When they could get thelr breath they Joxned the group of Dumonhans Daun explalned that she had just won the t1t1e of the Fastest Woman R1 nner on Earth after years of vxgorous training Le Roy told them that he had just rrplaced F E Boone on the Lucky Strlke program and proceeded to demon strate h1s auctmoneerlng talents He was ln fine voice but he had to stop because no one could hear the music 'Jon Seeger, Pres1dent of the Soc1ety for Prevenuon of Cruelty to Trombone Players stopped in to greet h1s old friends He sald he couldn t stay because of a rad1o engagement He was to speak over statmn O P U Bristow on the Causes and Effects of the Nervous Breakdown of Tommy Dorsey Helen Ruth Zxmmerman, recently of the Belgian Congo where she has been orgamzzng 4H Clubs came ln with one of her proteges He was a blg black cannibal who kept yelling 'Bongol Bongo!
