TURNELL mm-4-4-+05 m,...,fN -1 vas.: rl E CLASS WILL E, the Senior Class of l938, boasting of as sound mental capacities as possible after a year of feverish anxiety, do bequeath to the Juniors these varying talents and eccen- tricities. T0 THE JUNIOR CLASS: The art of gesturing with their hands and rendering appropriate facial expressions in hope that it will prove more effective and beneficial than it has for the departing class. The honor of becoming one of the distinguished members of our highly esteemed faculty on the annual Senior Day. The extreme pleasure of trying to maintain order in fthe corridors despite those under- classmen who persist in cutting during the changing of classes. The fun of spending half their allowance on tempting gum which will be chewed during classes with contentment and little dignity until the teacher announces her contempt for gum. The bother of worrying about that one deadly point for gym which might possibly prevent our leaving the portals of dear old D.H.S. To the Student Body we leave our six weary faculty advisers, trusting that their coming years will be flavored with more peace and happiness. TO THESE INDIVIDUALS: May the ever-satisfying and enduring friendship of Florence Swann and Ernestine Schroe- der live on between Edythe Bauer and Stella Mangano. Gladys McQueeney leaves her rhythmic dancing steps to the trio of Edythe Bauer, Helen Dixon, and Charlotte Hudson, May these nimble steppers dance into the Hall of Fame! Margaret Mansfield bequeaths to Eunice Martin the ability to tickle the ivories and hold groups spellbound by the smooth melodic notes of popular refrains. Carl Shounessy leaves his speaking ability to Bill Dickson. ln one breath we leave Frances Litteer's soft and soothing vocal renditions to Joan Powell. Long may she sing! Duke Nelson wills his nimble skill to truck on down to the small but magnetic Joe Brown. Evelyn Reith and Edgar Deegon extend wishes for conjugal happiness to Ruth Willis and Bill Dickson. Arthur Rast leaves his short hair cut to Bob King. Bill O'NeilI leaves his showmanship on the diamond to Ralph Heitel. Florence Wozny surrenders her skill of dethroning opposing tennis champions to her. successor, Helen Dixon. May this Dumont star bring fame to the little town of Haworth. Miss Menge will leave to the forthcoming Senior Class Chairman the task of stressing to the Seniors the significance of selling tickets, subscriptions, and practically everything im- aginable. Peter Accorti surrenders o box of aspirin tablets to the next year's Editor-in-Chief of the Reveries-and a word of warning. ' Miss Heinrich leaves to the adviser in charge of photography for next year's Reveries, the patience necessary for collecting all proofs. Bob Miller leaves Dumont with a smile. Alyce Zeller abandons her paint brush to Lillian Vogt, with the hope that she will suc- ceed in bringing recognition from near and distant exhibits to our school. Henry Aims leaves Dumont as quietly as he entered. Herber Yonker leaves his achievements as a photographer to Werner Sauer. Only Bob Tesar can wear those snappy colorful combinations! Leonard Wisnyi leaves the Chemistry class minus an Einstein. Harry Bengel bids his Alma Mater adieu still being mistaken for his twin brother Ernie. Bill McDougall leaves Dumont with his eternal arguments. Winifred Anson turns over the management of the Basketball Team to Edythe Bauer. Evelyn Reith leaves to Loretta McMahon that sweet and sympathetic nature we all love. Doris Dowd, the only remaining guard on our girls' team receives the best wishes of Edith Wissing. John Sutherland leaves with the rest of us. Duly signed, sealed, and executed this l6th day of March in the presence of two of our ever-patient but weary advisers, Miss Menge and Miss Heinrich. FLORENCE WOZNY Forty CLASS PROPHECY SEPTEMBER SO, 1950 Dear Bob: A glance into my favorite newspaper reveals the fact that the Brooklyn Dodgers have finally succeeded in winning the National League pennant due to the capable management of Harry Bunny Mansfield and the famous battery of Slaght and O'Neill. The Dodger's were honored at a Sports banquet last night, held at the Hotel Mansfield which is owned and managed by Buster Cole. Mayor Kennedy of New York was the principal speaker of the evening. Many prominent celebrities attended, among them being Ed. Lawrence popular Sports columnist of the New York Sun, Florence Wozny, famous tennis star, Grover Drakeford, noted heavyweight boxer, Edward Miller, re- cent golf champion, Cleveland Nelson, noted track personality and Joe Alonso, horse-racing expert. Leaving the Sport pages I turned to the front page and read of the heated debate going on in the Senate between Senator McDougall of New Jersey and Senator Blauvelt of New York over the current Naval Expansion Bill. Also occupying the headlines was the name of Leonard Wisnyi, world famous scientist, who has perfected a formula for removing the odor from limberger cheese. John Stewart, wealthy importer, in an interview to the press, stated that a protective tariff is necessary in order to achieve prosperity. Oddities in the news show that a fourteen pound baby boy was born to Mrs. Toth this morning. Mr. J. P. Toth, Jr., the proud father, is a plumber by trade, and lives with his family at Dumont, N, J. Glancing through the fashion page I noticed an article by Dagmar Svahn, noted style authority who predicts that women's hats this fall will be cuter and crazier than ever before, lis it possible?l. Last, but by no means least, l turned to the funnies and read an- other thrilling adventure of Snow Drift and the Seven Drops created by that King of Creatorsfl Norman Schabel. Tossing the paper aside I switched on my television radio, and was greeted with the sweet melodic strains of Bob Tesar and His Cosmopolitan Orchestra, featuring the Golden Gate Trio of Litteer, Swenson, and Con- boy. The program was suddenly interrupted by an important news flash stating that Butch Mulligan notorious gangster had been captured at his secret hideout in Chicago, through the combined efforts of America's ace G man Otto Schroeder and Harold Shea, chief of the Chicago State Police. Satisfied with the world in general and myself in particular I turned off the radio and went to bed, proud to have been a member of that illustri- ous class of '38. The squad cooperates with the school authorities and the Firemen and works to maintain order during fire drills. They consist of junior and senior boys. LIBRARY COUNCIL STUDENT COUNCIL OT only does the Student Council deliberate on affairs pertaining to stu- dent government, but it assumes the responsibility of providing a varied and interesting social calendar for the year. lt considers itself a vital part of the S.O. system by which funds are raised to carry on our school functions, We manage the S.O. Drive in the fall, and we consider it our duty to maintain a steady interest in the S. O, during the year. The president, Law- son Kennedy, is a member of the Budget Committee that meets every Wed- nesday to allocate funds. Our outstanding achievement of this year is the publication ofa hand- book, that has been made a success through the cooperation of every unit in Dumont High School, This is a true school handbook, The Executive Board composed of President Lawson Kennedy, Treas- urer Florence Wozny and the class presidents and representatives, is aided by able representatives chosen from each homeroom, club, and athletic organization, under the supervision of Mrs. de Nazario. TRAFFIC AND FIRE SQUAD THE LIBRARY COUNCIL HE Library Council is of great help to the school. The members often give up their study periods to accession books for the shelves and they take turns taking care of the desk. The purpose of the Council is to familiarize students with the school Library. Books are being classified according tothe Dewey Decimal classification system. The Library has been subscribing to thirty different magazines. Miss Tear, the school librarian, has worked very hard with the Council giving suggestions and helping them out of any problems that may have come up, Fifty-seven B ETA B ETA AST September the Beta Beta girls resumed their various activities under the leadership and guidance of Miss Manion, their faculty adviser. The club held one social meeting each month and devoted the other weekly meetings to business affairs. As a means of raising money, the club held a series of candy sales. ln addition, some of the club members gave card parties at their homes. As their service contributions to the school, the club took charge of the delivery of weekly supplies to home rooms and of ushering at school functions throughout the year. At Christmas time the girls assisted the Student Council in the wrapping of gifts for the Christmas baskets sent out by the school. The officers of the club are as follows: Florence Davis, Presidentf- Augusta Smith, Vice President, Mildred Grabowski, Secretary, and Ruth Freund, Treasurer. PERISCOPE Pl ETA Pl HE Pl ETA Pl originally known as the Pep Club swung into action this year under the guidance of Miss E. Saults. Besides carrying out their regular Hi-Y program, they have again undertaken the care of all the school lockers. Their ever-present spirit of service has been very obvious. The club has induced into their realm nine new members, held their first Parent's and Son's Dinner, conducted football rallies, and several oc- casions cooperated with the Tri-Y to make such events as the Football Sup- per a success. The club in conjunction with the Tri-Y presented their first formal dance which was a great success. They expect to make it an annual affair. They ended their season by holding Easter dawn services. KEY CLUB TRLY CLUB HE TRI-Y swung into another year of extensive activity with Miss C. Menge serving as faculty adviser for her second term of office. Our ex- ecutive body consisted of Norma Swenson, President, Winifred Anson, Sec- retary-Treasurer, and Edith Wissing, Student Council Representative. Among the outstanding projects our organization completed were the annual football supper and the inspection of lockers. Numerous socials were sponsored, the members being host to Westwood, Dumont Hi-Y and the Tri-Y Alumni. This year the Tri-Y and l'li4Y collabor- ated and gave a dance on April l which was considered one of the high spots of the year. The traditional Easter assembly program was acclaimed a huge success when a religious play was tendered to the Student Body. We have had faithful representation to the monthly council meetings at the Y and as a result, have profited from the friendships we have woven and the ideas which are exchanged at these conferences. HI-Y KEY CLUB HE KEY CLUB, sponsored by the Schraalenburg Kiwanis Club, aims to be of service to the school and to promote good fellowship and sportsman- ship among school members. lt has given to the school a school flag and a movie slide projector. The annual Key Club Ball, this year known as The Crystal Ball, proved to be one of the outstanding social events of the school year. Sixty-one THE BAND UR BAND is now in its sixth year under the direction of Mr. H. William Stehn. As in former years, the band has visited other schools. Those schools have returned the visits which resulted in many delightful assemblies. Following the tradition started in the first year, our band again presented its annual concert. The guest this year was the noted euphomiumist Mr. Dittmers. The uniforms of the band are very striking and as far as appear- ance is concerned, are on a par with any band in the state. The band has been invited to play at Albany, New York. CHEERLEADERS TH E ORCH ESTRA THE ORCHESTRA is now in its third year under the baton of Mr. H. Wil- liam Stehn. The organization was helped this year by a large number of students who were studying music under the supervision of Mr. Stehn last year. It is fairly well balanced and has made excellent progress. lt furnishes the musical portion of many evening affairs held in the school. Sixty-two 1 SENIOR DRAMATICS ANNE OF GREEN GABLESH -ANNE OF GREEN GABLESH the famous novel written by L. M. Mont- gomery and dramatized by Alice Chadwicke was presented by the Senior Class on Saturday, February 26, l938. The stage setting represented the early nineteen hundred's, The char- acters, dressed in costumes ot the some period, gave an excellent perform- ance. The loveable character of Anne Shirley, the little orphan girl, was ably portrayed by Frances Litteer. She was nobly assisted by an equally tal- ented supporting cast. MASQUE AND WIG SENIOR DRAMATIC SOCIETY THE Senior Dramatic Society is a Senior Club under the leadership of Miss Fegley.
