i DEDIC TIO This cruise book is dedicated to two separate groups. First, to those of you who make up the crew of the Navy's finest fighting ship, to remind you of our successful and adventurous deployment of the Western Pacific. Second, to those of you at home, who displayed unwielding devotion and support to our men under difficult circumstances, to show you why you made the sacrifices, why you spent months at home without your sailor, and what we were able to accomplish during that seemingly endless period of time. The Navy is required to defend the freedoms that many Americans have come to take for granted over the years. Our forefathers fought selfishly to make this country our own, we must maintain that sovereignty. Today though, it is much more. There are many people all over the world who have never experienced freedom. We have taken on the responsibility to show we are willing to help, and that we will be there in time of crisis. All of us must make sacrifices, but in an all-volunteer force it is only those who cherish the greatness of our nation that are willing to take on the burden of protecting it. You of DULUTH are an exceptional group of men, not only willing to serve your country, but to do so with pride, professionalism and an unparalleled degree of perfection. It has been my honor and pleasure to have served with you. Sin , J. . OW ii. .,u, ,..i,,-,,i.,i,cl.,-.mil so V
