CO MA D ASTER CHIEF CM CSWJ L.O. HYMAN III LAWRENCE O. WHYMAN III MASTER CHIEF PERSONNELMAN ISURFACE WARFAREI UNITED STATES NAVY Master Chief Personnelman Lawrence O. Whyman III is a native of Uvalde, Texas. After high school he joined the Navy in June 1969. Upon completion of Recruit Training at San Diego he joined USS IWO JIMA CLPH 25 in September 1969 as Seaman Apprentice. After requesting and graduating number one in his class from Personnelman Class HAH School, he returned to the IWO JIMA for completion of tour. In June 1973 he attended and graduated from classification and Interviewing School he was assigned to Navy Recruiting District, Little Rock, Arkansas as Senior Classifier. In December 1977 he reported to USS DELIVER KARS 233 Pearl Harbor, Hawaii performing duties as Personnel Officer, Postal Clerk, and Disbursing Clerk. Upon decommissioning he was assigned in September 1979 to Navy Manpower and Material Analysis Center Pacific, San Diego, California. Upon graduation from Management Engineering Technician School Master Chief Whyman performed duties as a Manpower Analyst and Command Career Counselor. Upon completion of this assignment he was assigned to USS NEW ORLEANS KLPH lll as Leading Chief of the Administrative Department and Personnel Officer. In February 1984 Master Chief Whyman again was assigned to Navy Recruiting District, Little Rock, Arkansas where he performed duties as Enlisted Processing Division Supervisor at Navy Recruiting Processing Station, Oklahoma, until February 1988, when he was assigned to the USS DULUTH CLPD 65 as Command Master Chief. Master Chief Whyman's awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation lSecond Awardl, Battle Efficiency Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal CFifth Awardl, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon CThird Awardl, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also received a Gold Wreath for recruiting excellence, and nine Silver Wreaths for excellence in recruiting support. Master Chief Whyman is married to the former Nancy Ann Lack. They have two children, William, 12 and James, 8.
