COMMANDING OFFICER CAPTAIN ARTHUR W. PRICE, JR. UNITED STATES NAVY Captain Arthur Whyte Price, Jr., USN assumed command of the USS DULUTH (LPD-6) on 27 August 1966. He first en- listed in the Navy in November, 1939. In 1943 he entered the Navy Flight Program and was graduated and commissioned in 1944. During the Korean War Captain Price served as Air Officer on board the USS FLOYDS BAY (AVP-40). In January 1956 he became Executive Officer of the USS STRIBLING (DD-867). In February 1958 he assumed command ol the USS LIDDLE (APD- 60). After a lour with the Bureau of Naval Personnel he was ordered to recommission and assume command of the USS ASHLAND (LSD-1) in 1961. During his service career he also completed studies for his B.S. degree at the University of Maryland and attended the management program at the Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey, California. His last duties saw him on the Staff of Commander Amphibious Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet as Force Operations Officer. Captain Price is married to the former Peggy Jane Wynn. They have four sons; John. Arthur, Robert, and James; and two daughters; Carolyn and Mary.

As you probably are aware, the plaque was presented by proxy June 5 at a special ceremony in the Duluth Naval Reserve Training Center. Lt. ' Cmdr. Robert Carver, comriander of the Duluth unit, acted on behalf o£ you men in presenting the insigne plaque from you to Duluth Mayor Ben Boo and then receiving this Recognition Plaque . Je in Duluth are proud of the fact our community is a namesake of the USS Duluth, ala the French explorer after whom our city derives its name, ' l ieiir du Lhut. lie also are proud of each and every one of the men vrho serves aboard the ship for we share admiration for what you are doing and for whatever achievements you shall attain. It was regretable we could not present you this small honor in person at the recent ceremony but perhaps at sometime in the future .-erne of our citizens may have the fortune of visiting your ship, and perhaps some of your men might well be visiting D-aluth in future years. There is, to be sure, much we have in cormion— and not in name only. Please convey to all the officers and enlisted men the best wishes from ' all of the 105,000 residents of the ity of Duluth. EXECUTIVE OFFICER COMMANDER DANIEL CHADWICK UNITED STATES NAVY Commander Daniel Chadwick. USN. was ordered lo ihe USS DULUTH in March of 1967. He first joined the Navy in 1943 as a Midshipman. On 6 June 1946 he was commissioned as En- sign and ordered lo the USS FRANK KNOX (DDR-742) In the ne.xl eight years he served primarily in deck, gun- nery, operations and supply departments aboard USS FRANK KNOX (DDR-742). USS TORO (SS-422).USS TILEFISH (SS- 307) and USS BRhAM (SS-243). By 1952. at the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade). Com- mander Chadwick was assigned to OPNAV AND Sub Div 12. Then, in 1956 he became Executive Officer of the USS MADREGAL (SS-480). During 1958 he attended Naval Intelli- gence School, advancing lo Lieutenant Commander on 1 April 1958. After serving as Operations Intelligence Officer for Staff CINCLANTFLT in 1959 and 1960. he became Commanding Offi- cer of Oceanographic Detachment TWO in 1961. From 1962 to 1964 he served as Executive Officer aboard the USS HERMIT- AGE (LSD-34). Then in 1964 he was ordered to Staff CINCPAC as Intelligence Analyst, where he served until cominc to the DULUTH. Commander Chadwick was married to the former Kathleen Pirie in Pearl Harbor in 1950. and now has one son, Guy, who was born in 1954.
