Dedication T ' R . .=7 ' : There is one factor which decides the dis- tinction of a superior university, some- thing more than an excellent faculty, modem facilities, a Cotton-bowl football team, above-average students, or progres- sive policies. It is an accumulation of these attributes, but beyond this, it is a final product. The men and women graduating from Duke University each year form an ever-enlarging body known as the Alumni. They carry with them the name of this university into every conceivable field of service and employment. Through their accomplishments, the name of Duke has, in the period of little more than a quar- ter-century, gained prestige and respect as an educational institution. Year after year, professions and industries repeat their interviews for prospective employees because former Duke graduates have proven themselves outstanding. These em- ployers have learned that a Duke Alum- nus is a wise investment. However, we thank our Alums for more than having paved our way for a warm reception in the outside world. Alumni groups are becoming increasingly active in their contributions and interest in the University itself. In the last twelve years, the number of contributors to the Loyalty Fund has more than doubled, and in this period a total of over 5.5 million has been accumulated. Alumni associations are also taking a growing interest in the policies and activities of the University. It is for their support, enthusiasm, and loyalty that we dedicate this 1961 Chan- ticleer to Duke Alumni everywhere. We salute with pride especially those alums who are currently holding positions of high achievement in every field — Medi- cine, Forestry, Religion, Law, Politics and Government, Business, and the Arts. And it is with gratitude and respect that we take this o pportunity to recognize the man who co-ordinates Duke Alumni affairs — our own Mr. Charles Dukes.
