Ah! you lcnow better than to ask If our toil has made us weary, Or our work and our daily task? Four long years we here have tarried 'Neath our Alma lVlater's wall, And cheerfully her standard carried, Since we answered to her call, When she called in tones entreating, And held to us the hands of might. Then we faltered, ever pleading That it was too hard a light. Dim before us loomed the pathway, About us then were shadows cast. Yet, lo! soon a gleaming ray Led us onward to the last. If we, while working here and there, ln the schoolroom, in the throngs, Ever a thought of self did bear, Then now to us no praise belongs.
