Dudley Hughes High School Macon Georgia Edited by Dianne Simmons THE 1970 SHIELD the Life in ne | | md The first days passed so slowly — thank goodness for assemblies and unexpected fire drills. Then before we knew it along came first nine weeks exams, report cards, and subfreshmen being put up. No one minded the ar- rival of the Christmas holidays . . . We didn't return until the next year, 1970. . . Basketball season ended as third quarter neared . . . The Junior Class ‘‘cordially’ invited the Senior Class to the Junior-Senior Prom . . . The class of 70 received their rings and the class of 73 were almost ‘Big Freshmen” . . . About this time we caught spring fever and thoughts turned toward the up- coming summer months . . . Senior activities preceded the final and most impo rtant event — Graduation of the Class of 1969. . . Final exams and report cards ended the year . . . A Year in the Life. The 1970 Shield recreates this year in the Life of Dudley Hughes. TET ie some I | ; ‘ z Mr. Amos tests . . . boring classes . . . . Crowded halls . . . basket- Names on desks ... demerits... Box 4388 Phone 742-6415 Macon, Georgia In Memoriam Ronnie Strickland Born: November 28, 1952 Died: December 3, 1969 Sadly missed by the faculty and students of Dudley Hughes Senior High. Death is inevitable. It is a democracy for all people, not an aristocracy for some of the people — Kings die and beggars die; young men die and old men die; learned men die and ignorant men die. We need not fear it. Death is not the ultimate evil; the ultimate evil is to be outside God's love. So ends the sixteenth YEAR in the life of The Shield . . . A few of us are sad to see the year go. . . Most of us welcome our three months of parole . . . Too soon vacation will be over . . . School will begin again . . . The school year 1970-71 will be here — leaving 1969- 70 behind only as memories . . . the teacher who gave fine demerits for ‘‘being late’. . . liking that certain person. . . traveling to out- rageous places with Mrs. Ruffin and Mr. Amos for special pictures . . . Mrs. Ruffin screaming about deadlines . . . these are other recollec- tions . . . the 1970 Shield. Dianne Simmons
