The outstanding services provided include oral surgery, preventive den- istry, endodontics, periodontics and operative denistry. During the WESTPAC deployment, the department treated over 1 100 crew members, embarked Marines and Korean troops. The busiest day included two broken jaws, tone Navy, one Marine! within one hour of each other during a holiday routine, which required wiring and medavac to Guam. Dental volunteered their efforts in providing dental examinations, distributing home care kits, and lecturing on proper oral home care to 155 children at Longos Elementary School, Republic of the Philippines in conjunction with the Humanitarian Project. As a result of Dental's concerted efforts onboard, the ship maintained the highest operational dental readiness in PHIBRON Five and achieved a 100 percent readiness level for the quarter ending June 1984. The department members participated in various sports activities including boxing, tug-o-war and other Pro-Oly events, 10K runs and softball. Img, S LT LAWRENCE A.
