Stark was b Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1945. He joined Navy in February 1968, and attended Kan State College of Pittsburg, Pittsburg, Kan for four years. He graduated in January 19 with a Bachelor Science degree in Educati and was subsequently commissioned as li sign in the U.S. Navy in July 1968. Commander Stark was assigned as Opci ations Officer on the USS MATACO QA 5' Q' from August 1968 until December 1969 was then transferred to Naval Comm tion Station, Guam Where Commander Sta was the Officer in Charge, ASC Guam July 1972. After, his tour in Guam, Co er Star was assigned as Executive the USS BOLSTER QARS 385 until 1974. In the latter part of August 1974 mander Stark was assigned to the TRUXTUN QCGN 355 where he served N AVIGATOR until his attendence at Surfal Warfare Officer Department Head Course June 1976. Commander Stark then served board the USS LANG QFF 10605 as the Ope ations Officer until January 1978. Upon co., pleting his tour on board the LANG, Cof mander Stark was transfered to Naval AQ phibious School, Where he served as PCO! ' LMET Instructor until his transfer to Co mander Amphibious Group One, Okinawa, Ji pan in June 1981.
