Determining the shipls position and plotting the correct course is the quartermaster gang's primary job, and it is a job with little room for mistakes. Whether using starsights, the sun, loran, radar, the fathometer, or the naked eye, N Division is sure to be right on track. With true professionalism the cluartermasters have guided DUBUQUE through some of the most difficult navigational passages in the World, including Japanls Inland Sea and the Philippines, San Bernadino Straits. U The duties and responsibilities of N Division extend beyond the main job of navigation. During all special evolutions, the quartermasters man the helm, lee-helm, and after-steering as well as the fathometer and gyrocompass repeaters. They are also responsible for one of the most important functions on any ship: maintaining the Deck Log. The consistently immaculate appearance of the Pilot House and bridge Wings, a part of HCaptain's Countrya' is also due to the tireless efforts of the quartermasters. , , 66
