B Division is one part of the shipis main propulsion team. ltis primary responsibility is the care and operation of the ships boilers and related auxiliary equipment, Begjdeg Supplying the steam to operate the main engines, the boilers provide steam for galley, laundry, heating system, and hot Water heaters. Steam demands, the result of speed change orders from the bridge, are met by rapid adjustments of equipment supplying fuel oil, combustion air, and feed Water to the boiler. The 721,000 gallons of fuel oil carried aboard the ship also falls under the control of B Division and the Oil King. During the deployment the boilers have burned over 50 million gallons of NSFO fNavy Standard Fuel Oily in 4,400 hours of steaming at a cost of 3400,000.00. Close to half of this fuel oil was consumed during the months of October and March during our two high speed crossings of the vast Pacific Ocean. Perhaps the greatest maintenance scheduling problem for the ship has been the boilers.
