The 4'Airdales don their colorful flight deck uniforms and take their stations. This evolution occured several times daily While DUBUQUE served as flagship and home for the flag helicopter. ln addition to the many VIP and administrative flights conducted by the embarked helo the Air Department was directly involved in the vertical replenishments by helicopter of the ships supplies. The Air Department is primarily concerned with air operations which includes the air control of aircraft in the vicinity of the ship, the loading and unloading of aircraft, the refueling of aircraft, and aircraft and flight deck firefighting and safety. The refueling of the shipis small boats during boat operations, and the loading, unloading and fueling of marine vehicles, tanks and LVT's also involve Air Department personnel. NYou name it.
