Mervin Lindsey - Principal Administration First, I should like to heartily congratulate the sponsor and the staff for their dedication and their many hours of labor in the production of this record of the 1975-76 school year. Too often many of us do not consider the difficulties which are en- countered by the members of the annual staff in creating a pic- torial history of the school year. Second, I wish the best of everything to the class of 1976. May each of you achieve your own personal goal. Third, I wish to thank each and every pupil, each and every staff member, each and every board member and each and every parent for his or her contribution in making this another memorable year. Superintendent Board Of Trustees Cynthia Boyhan. Walter Bell, Jr.. Roberta Milton, Leslie Stagner. Bob Grubb. John Story.

Dedication Dr. Ervin L. Cline The 1976 yearbook is dedicated with loving respect and admiration to Ervin Cline, who gives much more to us than he ever asks in return. He gives not only of his time; he can be found working Saturdays, Sundays, and until after mid- night many nights. Often he spends his own money on equipment, etc., for his classes. He also gives of himself to each and every student he teaches. Each person is an in- dividual to Dr. Cline, and he treats them as such. Ervin Cline grew up in Colorado, and after a stint in the service, he returned there to go to college. He has taught young people all the way from junior college through high school and junior high. He is always willing to try something new and at the present time he is working with an elementary stu- dent. The Science program that he and Mr. Manley have developed for our school is unique and it is gaining statewide recognition. Some of the programs he has in- itiated are Aeronautics, Behavior Biology, Oceanography, and Meteorology. The Science room has taken on a new look since the advent of Dr. Cline. Plants, animals, and science paraphernalia fill the room and receive Dr. Cline's special tender loving care. He also finds time to sponsor extracurricular activities. He is the Senior class sponsor and has also sponsored class tournaments in the school. I I hope that every student in the Dubois School can say along with me, It is a privilege to know Ervin Cline.” I know that I am proud to be his friend.

“Stand Your Ground . . . If They Mean to Have a War, Let It Begin Here. ” Capt. John Parker 1 Capt. John Parker uttered those words as the colonial militia under his command prepared to meet the British troops at Lexington. Those works and the painting—Spirit of '76—exemplify the dedication and determination of the American patriots in their fight for independence. The colonies had organized to express their grievances in an effort to resolve the differences within the framework of the Empire. Several of the colonial legislatures had instructed their delegates to the Con- tinental Congress in Philadelphia to oppose any move toward in- dependence. The movement for independence was gaining strength and following the publication of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, which argued for colonial sovereignty, a resolution was adopted and a committee of five appointed to draft a declaration of independence. 2 General Washington, who had been appointed commander-in-chief of American forces by the Second Continental Congress, was a brilliant military strategist. It was his decision to take his Continentals across the Delaware River on Christmas night which resulted in the first ma- jor colonial victory. That victory at Trenton over Hessian mercenaries gave the ragged army renewed vigor. Supported chiefly through the printing of Continental currency, the colonial army also went through the personal fortunes of many American patriots—among them Washington. Jefferson. Richard Henry Lee and John Adams. These fortunes were donated to the cause of liberty—a cause supported by about one-third of the American population which was near 2,000,000. Another one-third remained loyal to the English crown and the remainder were apathetic. Despite many defeats, the colonies managed to keep an army in the field as a symbol of American resistance, to guarantee a negotiated rather than dictated peace.
