Hodgson Superintendent A Message From The Superintendent As the 1973-74 school year draws to a close, I would again like to express my heartfelt thanks to the patrons of the district, the members of the Board of Trustees, the school staff, and the Dubois students for helping us to make this a successful year. I would particularly like to congratulate the members of the graduating class of 1974. Keep up the good work. In addition, I would like to thank Mrs. Johnston and the annual staff for their efforts in completing this yearbook. I certainly realize that it has been quite difficult with the changes which have taken place and some of the problems you have encountered. Hal M. Hale Principal Board Of Trustees Roberta Milton. Absaroka The weekly school newspaper, under the editorship of Susan Hein, was chosen best in Wyoming and second in the Northern Rocky Mountains. The University of Wyoming awarded the Absaroka nineteen individual citations, one of three All-State awards and the Wallace Biggs Award symbolizing best in state. In competition against Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Montana, the Absaroka placed second with Susan Hein, Leslie Charles, Linda Ferris and Mike Dobson win- ning individual recognition. Membership in Quill and Scroll, National Scholastic Press Association and Columbia Press Association was established. The year ended with the University of Iowa inviting advisor Dan Onflor to teach at its summer journalism clinic with Susan Hein. Leslie Charles and Deedee Atchley invited to attend as special guests. Linda Ferris and Paul Hawley led by reaching at least the semifinals of thirteen tournaments. At state, they drew Saratoga, Worland. Rock Springs, Lander, Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East before losing to Casper Natrona in the semifinals and edging Buffalo for third—highest ever for a class B school. Susan Hein and Leslie Charles won the Powell Tournament and finished the season tenth in the state but lost during Friday rounds of the state tournament. Individual events found Jeff Epp and Linda Ferris in extem- poraneous speaking and Paul in oratory achieving consistent success. All three qualified for state tournament and Paul and Jeff qualified for the Rocky Mountain NFL Regionals, where they reached the second day of eliminations. Jeff was the first freshman to ever reach the regionals. At years end, Paul considered six college debate offers and chose the University of Montana. LINDA FERRIS finished first in speaking at state tour- nament with a 27.6 average and third in Wyoming for the regular season with a 26.0 average. This earned her a summer scholarship to the University of Kansas Debate Institute. JEAN HEIN and partner Jeff Epp finished second to Casper Natrona in regular season Wyoming novice percentages, there being no post-season novice tourna- ment. Among their best showings were seconds at the University of Wyoming and North West College Tour- naments and a first at Riverton. 35 Chorus BACK ROW-Left to Right: Paul Hawley. Lew Poole. Phil Cross.
