Class officers were: Pres- ident, Lyle Poole; Vice-President, Carol Nowlin; Secretary-Treasurer, Peg Poulson. We had a rugged initiation at the first of the year, but we also white-washed the DHS on the hill which had been built by the last year’s frosh. This year was the starting of basket- ball lettering for the girls as well as the boys. There was a basketball banquet for both boys and girls, and many in our class received their letters. In our Sophomore year, we had lots of fun...another basketball banquet, and the soph- omore girls served at the Junior-Senior Banquet. They wore Japanese costumes because the theme of the dance was a Japanese Flower Garden. There were still sixteen members in our class, but Ralph Thayer dropped, and Dency Harper, Ken Richardson, and Dave Weber enrolled. Officers this year were: President, Carol Nowlin; Vice-President, Lyle Poole; Secretary, Jack Smith; and Treasurer, Peg Poulsen. During the Junior year we had a regular merry-go-round of activities such as the Junior-Senior Play, the Prom, which had as its theme, “Moonlight and Roses”. We were very proud of this dance, and it was truly beautiful...on the state was an arch covered with climbing roses, and under the arch was the Queen’s throne. The throne was fashioned like a huge American Beauty rose, and there, Queen Carol Nowlin was crowned, with her attend- ants who were Peggy Poulsen and Nancy Boedeker. The rest of the gym was decorated with a stone wall around the dance floor with rose bushes and roses growing out of the stone wall. In the corners of the gym were pillars with climbing ivy. The orchestra pit was under a big arch and the ceiling was a blue sky, with a big star and lighted moon. The Junior-Senior play was entitled “Off the Track”, and was directed by Mrs. Glade. Our class officers were: President, Jack Smith; Vice-President, Carol Nowlin; Treasurer, Peg Poulsen; Secretary, Dick Stevens. At the beginning of our Senior year, there were thirteen members of the class, but Virginia Moore dropped out, leaving us an even dozen. We had our school play, “Commin’ Round the Mountain”, Basketball banquet. The Junior-Senior Banquet, a dinner given by Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Nowlin, and Mrs. Poulsen for the faculty and seniors, a waffle supper given us by the T. O. W. Club, a trip to Casper to the oil fields for some of them, the Music Festival, Mother’s tea, the Powder Puff Panic, Faculty breakfast for seniors and then the big days of Baccalaureate and Commencement. Our Class Colors are Lilac and White. Our Class Motto is “What Time Has Done, No Man Can Undo.” 13 Our Class Flower, Chrysanthemum Senior Class Will and Testament We, the mighty Seniors of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-Five of Dubois High School, county of Fremont, School District Number Two, State of Wyoming, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament, hereby resolving any other will or wills made by us. Ron Alexander: Living in a cozy little ranch house with his dear wife Elsie, and their set of twins and set of triplets....(all tow-headed girls). Ron’s still playing for Decker’s Beer (Basketball? Hid) Dick Stevens: He’s coaching for the World Famous Women Basketball team, the “Red Heads , with red hair and a mohawk haircut. The “Red Heads ' are impatiently waiting for Hoss’s Blondes to grow older so they can challenge them. As Father Time turns on his radio, he hears the following: Jack Smith: The “EMCEE , for the “Super-Duper Popcorn Program’ in Dubois. He is sponsored by the Sage Brush Frozen Fruit Company. Roy Smith: The Famous Disc Jockey he is riding the discs and dodging needles on track four. Sounds like he is sure in the groove. Peering closer at the streets of Dubois, Father Time sees: Booge Frank: Riding a bucking horse down main street as usual. He has been rodeo-ing around the country and winning all the prizes. Nancy Boedeker: Nancy and Pete have a Coast to Coast “Popular, Patient, Pete Popko Moving Van Company . Jon Meckem: Jonny is nearly making the Olympic Ski Team, and he is off practicing all the time. Honn has not as yet given up his shabby Ford. Father Time smells the delicious odor of hamburgers, at the Korner Kitchen he sees Ken Richardson: Making his living with Peg running a restaurant even though Bobby Shlup devotes most of his time writing music in the back booth. Father Time looks down on the Dubois High School and sees: Carol Nowlin: Teaching a class of biology, also girls gym. Her husband Bo Coates is teaching boys gym with their coats hung in the corner. The word about the town of Dubois as Father Time hears it is: Everrett Hower: His own symphony orchestra in the Rams Horn. Everrett lost the bet that the wouldn’t get married until he was 26. Was the girl on the guitar. Boyd Livingston: Going to University of Wyoming teaching English. Spends his time studying Mountain Sheep from the wrong end of his binoculars. Peg Poulsen: Working as a lab technician at Fitzsimmons Veteran’s Hospital. She is conducting intensive study of the love life of the AMOEBA. She is comfortable in her house now. She is living with her nineteen Siamese cats. 15 JUNIORS Class History In the Freshman year there were five members of the class and Bonna Smith and Vonna Smith came back from California about the end of the year. At the time the class officers were President, Pete Presgrove; Vice-President, Bill Deshaw; Secretary-Treasurer, Katy Wingert. We had a very nice initiation that year. Our Sophomore year found only five of us. The only girl was Kitty Wingert. Keith Rhodes joined the class this year. Kitty dropped at the first of the second semester along with Bill Deshaw. At the last of the year, Gail Forrmey and Bonna and Vonna Smith joined the class almost at the end of the year. The officers were. President, Katy Wingert; Vice-President, Gene Larson; and Secretary-Treasurer, Pete Presgrove. Our Junior year, we found only four members of the class left, two boys and two girls. The class promoted a very good Junior Prom along with the usual Play and Banquet. The class officers were, President, Vonna Smith; Vice-President, Gene Larson; Secretary, Pete Presgrove; Treas- urer, Bonna Smith. We enjoyed this year very much, and hope very much that we can have as nice a one next year. We thank our advisor, Mr. Bauer for all his help. Vonna Smith Pete Presgrove Gene Larson Bonna Smith JUNIORS SOPHOMORES Class History The sophomore class now numbers sixteen students and is comprised of nine boys and seven girls. The student council representatives were Gerry Linsdau and Margie Pickett. Mary Ellen Richardson was the home-coming attendant and Mary Ann Smith was the Junior Prom queen attendant. The sophomore class is very proud of the fact that fourteen of their class made the all school choir and five of the girls made the grade for the High School Girls’ Glee Club. The Sophomore class ended their year with a very interesting trip to the O. M. Finley Ranch up the East-Fork to observe cattle branding and they also engaged in a tour of the fossil beds northwest of the Finley Ranch. Mrs. Plomondon was advisor for the group. Pep Club Officers Cheerleaders Junior - Senior Play Voted a Big Success Cornin’ Round The Mountain , a comedy in 3 acts was presented by the Dubois High School juniors and seniors on Saturday, the 23rd of April. The hillnilly melerdrama played to a capacity house and was termed by many to be almost a pro- fessional appearance. The cast of characters were; MAW..................BONNA SMITH PAW. .......................BOYD LIVINGSTON CURLY.........................RON ALEXANDER CORNEY BELL..........CAROL NOWLIN DIZZY MAE............VONNA SMITH ZEKE.................JON MECKEM and Sammy Fester’s haid in. Vonna Smith, as Dizzy Mae had everyone thoroughly convinced that she was truly teched because of her conver- sations with Timothy, the imaginary barr”, and because of her truly comical actions all during the play. Zeke the youngest son, Jon Meckem, brought down the house with roars of laughter each time he appeared on stage. Roy Smith, acting as Sammy did very well as the mountain lover of Corney Bell who eventually ends up with Doris Dean , a city gal who was exemplified by nancy Boedeker. Others much involved were; ELLIE LOU DUFUNNY. . . PEG POULSEN SAMMY FESTER..............ROY SMITH ROBERT BRUCE. . . . KEN RICHARDSON EDWARD SMALL. . . PETE PRESGROVE CAROL HUGHES .... PEG HENTHORNE DORIS DEAN........NANCY BOEDEKER ORCHESTRA.........EVERRETT HOWER The entire action of the play took place in the Skitter family’s run-down farm house which is located in the back- woods country of the southern mountains.. ..The time was in the summer. Bonna Smith, as Maw was ex- cellent and continually having trouble with her old stove which blew up most convinc- ingly at the most crucial of moments while Boyd Livingston, as Paw”, complete with his wad of chewin’ tobaccy caused roars of laughter each time he had the misfortune to lose his overalls and displayed full-length long red underwear. Curly, portrayed by Ron Alexander, was a typical, bashful country boy who worshipped a blonde model found in the Rears Sawbuck catty-log. His sister, Corney Nell , ably played by Carol Nowlin, caused much consternation to the audience when she chased her brother Zeke around the stage, threatening to baish both his Ellie Lou , complete with red hair and freckles was a real-life country gal as played by Peg Poulsen, while Peg Henthorne was the model Carol Hughes who admired Curly to such an extent. Both Ken Richardson and Pete Presgrove did fine characterizations of the city boys who found themselves in an extremely compromising position in the Skitter family. The Junior-Senior play was voted the best play of the year and did receive a number of offers to travel to nearby towns for add- itional performances, however, financial obligations involved did not permit this. All in all, the play permitted the stu- dents of DHS to display their talents. Direction of the play was by| DIRECTOR........MRS. PLOMONDON ASSISTANT DIRECTOR....MR. The Dubois Basketball Team The Dubois High School Basketball Team won every game played at home this year. They started in by losing their first three games away from home, and ended up with a thirteen game winning streak, only to be defeated in the finals of the district tournament by Tensleep by only two points. The score being 48 to 50. The team is going to miss these graduating seniors who helped so much to spark the team in their many wins. They are Hoss, Jack, Dick, Jon, Roy, Boyd, and Dwain. Dubois now has not lost a game on their home floor during the past two years. This is probably an unsurpassed record for any high school in the state.
