JAYNE LEDBETTER The Seniors of 1970 wish to dedicate the 1970 SHAMROCK to a person that has been of great service to our class during the past years. She has seldom failed to appear at any and all of the many functions our class has had. She has helped to make our two class plays successful through her own devotion. She has tried to instill in us a love for learning and a love for life itself. She is devoted not only to her profession, as a teacher, but also to each student in Dublin High School. This is why we, the Se- niors of 1970, respectfully and appreciatively dedicate the 1970 SHAMROCK to Mrs. Jayne Ledbetter. Sam Wolfe High School Principal Roy Newsom Head Football Coach L. R. One important detail is MONEY. They are allowed to have one minor project this year. They chose a chili supper, which they made 175 dollars off of. They haven’t decided on a minor project yet. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The students shown in the photo below represent the top students of Dublin High School. In order to become a mem- ber of the National Honor Society, a student must have straight A’s for a six weeks or an overall average of 90 for a semester. After the grade requirement has been met the student’s qualifications in leadership, character, and service as well are reviewed by a panel of teachers. Any student may be disqualified for delinquency in any of the four areas, leadership, scholarship, character, or service. After accep- tance, a National Honor society member must maintain an overall average of 85. If he fails to do so he is placed on probation for one grading period. If he does not bring the average up during this time, he loses his membership and can never regain it. NHS members, however, do not study all of the time. The meetings include such activities as a party at Mrs. Wall’s house, Christmas caroling, and decorat- ing at the Free Fall Fair. NHS is perhaps the most distin- guished club in DHS, and any student should be proud to be a member. Prior to 1969, the National Honor Society published the school newspaper, LION’S ROAR. This was done strictly in the student’s spare time. This year, however, this project was included in the curriculum of the Creative Writing Class. All of the senior NHS members are in this class and therefore, still have a part in the publication of the LION’S ROAR. Back row left to right: Mike Boucher, Carl L. This yearbook is part of us, and we hope the students will realize and ap- preciate the time, energy, HARD work, tears, laughter, and loving care we have put into this yearbook. 46 SHARE MANY MEMORIES Ben Pate Photographer Debbie Fine Debra Boucher Rickki Dansby Beth Pope Ronnie Osborn Mickie Hodges and Shirley Koff To be editors of the 1970 SHAMROCK is an honor that we have worked toward for the past three years. It has been, perhaps, the most re- warding accomplishment that we shall ever ex- perience. Just as devoted athletes become a lit- tle saddened at the last game of their high school careers, we as editors, are a little saddened to end our relationship with the SHAMROCK. Many things go into the making of a yearbook, and without the wonderful staff that we have had to work with us this year, our edition could not have been as successful as we feel it is. To these people we extend a very special and heart felt thanks. It is our hope, as editors of the 1970 SHAM- ROCK, that this yearbook may be, to you, as it is to us, one of your most cherished possessions. Several years ago, the Club changed its name to the “Lucille Caraway FTA Chapter” in honor of the teacher who organized the club. In 1960-61, Luine Heizer was the State Financial Secretary, with Mrs. Lloyd Sanders as her sponsor. In 1962-63, Stella King was State Recording Secretary, with Mrs. Elma Ruth Wheatley as her sponsor. The high-light of each year is the State Convention, which some of the members have at- tended since the organization of the club. The State Convention is to be held in Fort Worth this year, at the new Convention Center. The members assist teachers in some of the bookkeeping that is part of teaching. Sometimes, they are even called on to teach a class. A number of the club members have made teachers, because of the experience g ained in working in the FTA Chapter. —Ekma Ruth Wheatley AND OFFICERS L. to R. Brenda Rasberry, Sec.; Mark Humphries, St. Council Rep.; Carl L. Hall, Pres.; Mickie Hodges, Rep.; Marty Tompkins, Treas.; Robert Hall, V. Pres. Burlene Capell was elected District Financial Secretary at the District XV Convention Novem- ber 25, 1969. The Convention was held at Brady in the local High School. Workshops were presented by various chapters. Lunch was served and entertainment provided. FTA was limited only to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors this year. New members were re- quired to submit a written statement of why they wanted to be in FTA. As a result, the FTA Chapter represents those students who are in- terested in teaching as a profession. Plans were made for the State FTA Convention, in February. The convention will be in Fort Worth. 67 ge ee x pe i ee ane ee ete eS y ¥ OFFICERS: Jana Tate, President; Linda Armstrong, Ist Vice-President; Minnie Buchanan, (not shown) 2nd Vice-President; Vice-President; Diane Whitefield, 5th Vice-President; Kathy Thiebaud, Sec- Pam Hodges, 3rd Vice-President; Celinda Shaw, 4th retary; Suzanne Gibson, Parliamentarian, Susan Salyer, Treasurer; Debbie Fine, Historian; Lynda Randals, Sergeant-at-Arms; Mickie Hodges, S.C. I don’t ask for any place in the lineup; play me where you need me. I only ask for the stuff to give you a hundred per cent of what I’ve got. If all the hard drives come my way, I thank you for the compliment. Help me to remember that You won’t let anything come that You and I can’t handle, and help me to take the bad breaks as part of the game. Help make me thankful for them. And God, help me always to play on the square, no matter what the other players do. Help me to come clean. Help me to see that often the best part of the game is helping other guys. Help me to be a regular fellow with the rest of the players. Finally, God, if fate seems. to uppercut me with both hands and I’m laid up on the shelf in sickness or old age, help me to take that as part of the game, too. Help me not to whimper or squeal that t he game was a frameup or that I had a raw deal. When in dusk I get the final bell, I ask for no lying, complimentary stones. I’d only like to know that You felt I’ve been a good guy. —Chaplain’s Digest Ronnie Huse Joey Billingsley Donald Gilbert Paul Dean Fair Trainer Manager 86 Manager B-team Manager f Back row left to right: Morris Randolph, Steve Jennings, Phil Maikell, Alan Traweek, Johnny Tata, Terry Greer, Tyra Martin, Damon Stephens, James Steele, Douglas McGathey, Front row left to right: Robert Keith, Rocky Ford, Steve Hightower, John Dale Speers, Ronald Osborn, Phil Hardin, Gary Stone, Rodney Marshall, Oran Christion, Travis Brown. We hope that it will serve iis purpose and withstand the test of time. We hope that the faces seen on the following pages will reflect a few moments of enjoyment in DHS. The importance of sports to the high school student is easily reflected in the faces of the football captains as they speak to the student body at a pep rally. Each Fri- day hundreds of high school boys represent not only themselves but also their schools as they strive to play their best, to be a good sport, and to uphold the honor of their alma maters. ACTIVITIES MAKE HIGH SCHOOL FUN High school is a time of one’s life dedicated to learning, but through the years, it has become perhaps the most memorable time of one’s life. The activities connected with school life make the years seem brief and exciting. A homecoming bon fire represents a collection of wood, a collection of people, and a collection of hopes for victory. Many hours of hard work go into the presentation of half-time activities by the band. These pictures reflect a moment of these activities. Each school year has some exciting or memor- able event for every student. Such an event was “Tacky Day” at DHS. A surprisingly large num- ber of students donned clothing that otherwise they wouldn’t have been caught dead in. Not only was it a day of unusual dress but also a lg day of unusual activities. Pictured at right is Mrs. Wheatley —and the picture isn’t upside down. she is! Above: Brenda Rasberry and be- low: Judy Walls and Bill Evans. Antiaul TACKY DAY IS BIG SUCCESS “Tacky Day” was a day of complete bedlam. Classes were dismissed or used as an opportunity for such frolics as singing Christmas carols. Below are pic- tured three faculty members, Mrs. Barry, and Coach and Mrs. Ledbetter in their tacky attire. Above: Mary Wilson, Debbie Lively, Darla Stokes, Pam Whitehead, and Billy Don Evans. Right: Would you believe—Jerry Pettijohn? Bottom: A group of DHS students and teachers having a ball! Pam Hodges, during an afternoon practice concentrates on in- tricate band maneu- vers.
