Fred Riddle, a second Bob Hope, is in charge of a talent hour that is being spon- sored by Hazel Bishop. His guests are: Ada Dalton, ballet dancer; Barbara Louder- milk, famous composer of jazz; Peggy Snyder, opera singer; Betty Scaggs, guitar player; and Mary Sutton, famous short story writer. Turning the page we read that several of our friends are graduate nurses: Edith Thompson, Kitty Sheets, Barbara Collier, and Barbara DeHart. We find that Robert Johnston, Principal of D. H. S., has announced his teach- ers for the coming year. Those we are interested in are: Wilmer Akers, FFA advis- er; Bertha Ritter, home economics teacher; and Mary Trussler, second grade teacher. We finish reading the paper and enter Williams’ Pharmacy. There we find Jerry fussing over a new formula and Sibby giggling over the accounts. After or- dering a soda, John Linkous, a famous band leader, comes in and we talk to him. He tells us that Dot Reed has secured a position as the Secretary to the President of the U.S.A. and that Ed Tickle now owns the Greyhound Bus Lines. His drivers are Robert Chinault and Blake Nicewander. We also hear that Walter Boone is star play- er for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Dick Hedge is star picther. We talk along and among the housewives we know are: Ruth Hopkins, Betty Long, Sherry Lawson, Areta Morris, Jenny Simpson, Ruby Palmer, and Barbara White. They tell us that John Ed Dalton is state forester; James Ford is a hot- rod driver in the Olympics; Joan Siler has finally decided to join the W. A. F. ; and Maxine Nester and Doris Hinkley are managers of the Ladies Department Store in Parrot. Lonnie Hinkley is still working at Clover Creamery and Betty Miller had finally secured the coveted doctors degree. Mary Nester is manager of Leggetts De- partment Store; Bobby Overstreet is manager of Burlington Mills and his bookkeeper is Jack Tolbert. Fay Parks is manager of Carson’s Drug Co.; Carol Powers is di- rector of a modeling school in New York; and John Bruce and Clyde Childress are coaching football at the University of Virginia. Among our secretaries are: Rebecca Farmer, Annie Ledford, Shirley Smart, Jean Spry, and Sue Harrell. Giny Ratcliffe has joined the secretarial branch of the air force to be with her husband. Richard Whitt is chief cook at his Drive-In Grill; Mary Webb is an Appalachian Home Demon- strator; Hensel McCoy is married and supporting a family; and Margaret Newcomb is still evading men. Gene Boitnott is still waiting for a lucky break. Tired of shopping and fooling around we return home with a firm resolve in our hearts to do a better job in the field of dramatics and music which we have chos- en as our work. —21— Margaret Tolbert Phyllis Hylton FREDDIE RIDDLE ADA DALTON BEST DANCERS WHO’S WHO JIM FORD ' SHERRY LAWSON most talkative FREDERICK BtlNKAMPEN- JOAN SILER BIGGEST NUISANCE CLYDE CHILDRESS -Gt NY RATCL1FFE MOST ATHLETIC DOT RETD • JOHNNY L1NKOUS MOSTUKELYTOSUCCEED REBECCA FARMER-GENE BOITNOTT BEST ORESSED BARBARA WHITE- DAVID KIT2MILLER BEST LEADERS MARY CLARE SUTTON JOHN EO DALTON MOST TALENTED BARBARA DEHART- ROBERTJOWtoroN BEST PUYSIQUE PE6 SNYDER WALTER BOOHE CUTEST KITTY SHEETS JVILMER AKERS BEST ALL-AROUND MARGARET NEWCOMBTOMMY LAWTON MOST DEPENDABLE SI6BY STRUPE -JERRY WILLIAMS MOST IN LOVE JENNY SIMPSON HENSEL M‘COY QUIETEST SHIRLEY SMART -TED BtPWELL MOST INTELLIGENT SIBBY STRUPE -QUEEN OF HEARTS CROWNED BY DAVID KITIMILLER CLASS POEM There are many people in our class Who write better poetry than I, But with such great people to write about The least I can do is try. I’d like to take each classmate And tell what each one’s done But I’m so slow, and time won’t wait, Tho’ believe me, we’ve had fun. Together we’ve walked thru the Hall of Fate Sharing our jokes and sharing our sorrow. So now we stand at Future’s Gate With all the plans and hope of tomorrow. The football games, our government books, The crowded halls, the school song, all the extra joys, The assembly programs — familiar looks We’ve shared with special friends, our own girls and boys. We leave the Senior Play, the Prom, and Shakespeare too. We leave our sports, our clubs, and such. In fact, we’re leaving everything to you ; Take good care of the school we love so much. Graduation night is swiftly rolling ’round And soon our class will be separated, But we can’t lose the friends we’ve found, We’ll still be just the “gang” — only graduated! This is it! Our final burst of glory! And after graduation we won’t forget That as we write the last page of our high school story, The Class of ’53 was the very best one yet ! These last two lines are just to say good-by To four wonderful years, our teachers, you, and Dublin High! Man- made fibers, new products of the chemist’s test-tube, have been a rnaor contributor to this textile progress. A small textile producer in 1923, Burlington Mills believed in the future of rayon — an early man-made fiber. In the past 28 years Burlington has become a leader in the development and production of beautiful, durable and high-quality filament, spun and knit synthetic fabrics. From one plant with approximately 200 employees, our Company has grown to include 73 manufacturing plants in 43 communities of eight states and four foreign countries. Employing 34,000 people, Burlington is today the world’s largest producer of synthetic fabrics, and it is a recognized leader in the designing, development, research, merchandising and fashion fields as well as manu- facturing. If you are a young man or woman looking for a place in industry, we think you should consider textiles — and Burlington. It can hold a bright future for the person with the willingness to learn, ability to work, and the natural interest in this fascinating and competitive field.
