Troilus and Cressida We feel bold to quote Shakespeare but have again tried to show that Shakespeare said it all — even to de- cribing the students and aetivities at Dublin High Sehool. As H. G. Bunner has written: “Shake was a dramatist of note; He lived by writing things to quote.” — 3 — All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts. ... As You Like It 18 — P R O IMHl E C Y On a quiet and calm day in ’52, walking along quite engrossed in our thoughts, we sudden- ly found ourselves at Madam Zoras. As our eyes wandered over the quaint little shop, they seem- ed to be drawn to the little crystal ball in the center of the room. As we gazed at it curiously, the time slipped by and stopped at the fast and modern age of ’62. Why, we were looking into the fu- ture! As we stood there, from the ball came a laugh. The unmistakeable, undescribable laugh of Isabelle Bain and chiming in was Doris Halsey. It seems they were comedians on Donald Martin’s T. V. show. Then the scene passed and there at a busy bus terminal was David Hale, owner of the Blue Rocket Bus Line, with the one person who had given him the inspiration to be a success, Polly Dalton. Also at this station we found the famous traveler and poet, Peggy Farmer, giving last minute instructions to her secretary, Helen Cecil. But it seemed Peggy wasn’t the only traveler. There was our statesman, William Heer, taking a trip to Switzerland. As we started to look away there came a great clamor and noise from the ticket window and we saw our one-time Judy Gor- don, now Mrs. Sheffey, with her children trying to buy tickets home to Dublin. While we were enjoying the business of Mr. Hale, the crystal ball suddenly became a stage and there were our two opera singers, Betty Brown and Betty Sumner, singing “Atomic Energy.” Then from the background came our chorus girls, Janet Humphrey, Phyllis Jones, Betty Lee Farmer, Goldie Dalton and Bonnie Shaeffer doing the “Can-Can,” 1962 edition. From the ball came numerous scenes of stores but the one which attracted our attention most was Woodie’s Atomic Sundry. And who should we find there but Jack Williams, who was now a famous singer on Andrew Hopkins’ “Hillbilly Star Times,” drinking a super atomic root beer. We moved on up the street to a dairy shop and of all things advertised was Robert Boyd’s new Buttermilk Smash. The scene moved on and we found ourselves in Washington. There behind a giant desk was Noah Rakes, Secretary of Agriculture, with his co-workers Billy Ritter, Wallace Weaver, Calvin Quesenberry, and Junior Lester trying to give him advice. Then from the crystal ball came a loud noise. Why. it seemed to be the cheers at a foot- ball game. Why of course it was! There were our All-American football players, Tony Vickers, Robert Bruce, Charlie Shouse, Iford Turpin, Neil Bayless and Beverly Farmer in a big bowl game. We looked over in the stadium driveway just in time to see Keith Reed and Jim Edd Morris zooming up in a supped up Cadillac. Then with a change of lights in the crystal ball we saw a great streamliner and who would be at the stern but Admiral Richard Hedge and whom do you think was a passenger, none oth- er than Dublin’s Professor of English, William Neese. The crystal ball suddenly blurred and we watched until the scene changed once again. There we saw Tom Jennings and Roy Brookman watching the new creations in the line of television. We closed our eyes to rest, but not for long because there came a chatter of female voices and w ho would they be but Shirley Boone, Elizabeth Weddle, Julia Harrell, Louise Weaver, Jua- nita Spry, and Goldie Lester talking of their housewife experiences. We turned to walk off when we saw Mrs. Alta Weiss, manager of Leggetts Department Store, talking to Kathleen Osborne, Dublin’s new government teacher. Tall buildings loomed up in the ball and we realized we had been switched to New York. There in front of a swanky dress shop we saw the names of Jackie Shepherd and Norma Jean Perkins. With one quick glance inside, we found that their competent helpers were Jean Brans- come and Marie Williamson. Far up in the top of this same building we found Fred Beinkampen, the second Jack Benny, rehearsing for his radio show. Now, once more, we found ourselves back in the prosperous little town of Dublin. But our interest here was the high school. Much to our surprise we found Harmon Akers occupying Mr. Barton’s seat with Eugene Murdock as his assistant. While down the hall in the Home Economics Department was Barbara Wheeling having quite a time with her senior home economics class. And just across the hall was the great professor of biology, Dion Dalton. From the crystal ball came a faint smell of anaesthetics and with a quick glance at the hospital we saw four competent nurses, Polly Haga, Lorina Osborne, Idabelle Robertson, and Annalee Wilson. We were still eagerly looking into the crystal ball when we realized that we had seen all of our classmates. The light faded and we thought we were through, but still dimly we could see two figures taking shape. And there we were; two happy, but not famous, women with only our families to keep us occupied. Marie Bolt Shirley Williams — 19 — CLASS POEM Much is the force of heaven-bred poesy. . . . The Two Gentlemen of Verona. We’re introducing the class of ’52 And will do our best to describe them to you. First comes Harmon, our greatest pest, And for co-captains we have the best. None other than Tony and David Hale, They’ve done a good job and will never fail. Our Beta student is Peggy Anne Farmer And Jim Ed Morris is quite a charmer. Our master of ceremonies is Bill Neese, And our baby sitter is Alta Weiss. Bill Ritter and Junior are two of a kind And for a nice personality, Jean Branscome’s your find. Our class clown is none other than Roy, And Don Martin thinks a girl is a toy. Our new-comers are Lorina and Kathleen. While Shirley Boone’s qualities are that of a queen. As for Farmer’s, we have Beverly and Betty Lee, And the Weavers are Wallace and Louise — as you can see. Bonnie Sue Sheaffer is sweet and small While Norma Jean is the tallest of all. Jackie and Dion are our great artists And Annalee Wilson is one of the smartest. Those flirtatious ways belong to Phyllis Jones, And a mind like Helen’s we would all like to own. For a lover of football we have Andrew And Iford who always says, “I didn’t do it, did you?” Our two Dalton’s are Goldie and Polly And Barbara’s laughter is always jolly. The shorthand genius is Juanita Spry And Shirley Williams hopes are high. The home-room roll caller is Noah Lee, And for redheads, we have Idabelle and Marie. Doris Halsey is cute and sweet. And in football Tommy and Dickie can’t be beat. Our quietest, friendly boy is Calvin Quesenberry, Quite a contrast to Keith — who is always in a hurry. Fred Bienkamper and Robert Boyd Are two we sometimes have to avoid. Jack Williams’ voice is delightful to hear. And everyone knows when Isabelle is near. We hear Janet likes U. Va., Could it be because the games are so gay? Neil Bayless is really lots of fun But then, so is Marie Williamson. We all know Judith will wear a smile When she marches down the aisle. Julia already has her wedding band And she says marriage is really grand. Polly and Elizabeth are quiet, it’s true. But we’ve yet to see them blue. If fraudulent jokes you desire to hear Then we suggest you go to Bill Heer. We often wonder what things are all about For Robert Bruce is sometimes hard to figure out. Well, that’s our class — except for we two. We’ve been inseparable our school years through. Our love is for dramatics, music, and poetry. And delight in laughter, dancing, and gaiety. So there you have us, one by one. Our years at Dublin have surely been fun. But remember — as you are now, so once were we. As we are now, soon you will be. — Betty Brown — Betty Sumner CLASS WILL ‘Otir wills and fates do so contrary run That our devices still are overthrown . . .
