The Maple Leaves Shirley Anne Bruce Velina Palmer Peggy Anne Siner Jimmy Brillheart Bill Grigsby Outstanding Seniors The Senior Class selected these seniors for being outstanding in some area during their high school years. Shirley Anne Bruce has maintained a high scholastic rec- ord, and possesses a number of artistic talents, including playing the piano and writing poetry. Shirley Anne received the American history award that is granted by the DAR, and served as assistant editor of the annual. Velma Palmer has always been admired for her excellent scholastic record, and was valedictorian of the Senior Class. Velma has been a member of the Beta Club for two years and has been active in other school activities. Peggy Anne Siner has always been known for her dependability and willingness to accept responsibility. Peggy Anne received the DAR good citizenship award for this year. She was editor of the 1949 annual, and has put into this project a great deal of time and effort. Jimmy Brillheart has come into his own in sports during high school ; he has been a superior football player and has starred in both basketball and baseball. Jimmy was elected president of the Student Council during his senior year, and served most ably in this capacity. Bill Grigsby was salutatorian of the Senior Class, president of F.F.A. during his senior year, and won in Dublin High School the public speaking contest sponsored by the Virginia Bankers Association. Bill has been outstanding in his interest in school activities and has been active in a number of clubs throughout high school. 12 —
