Duarte, rated very low, came back with four wins, one loss, six and three for the overall season. Different also from past years, a football team with a prayer before the games (never done before) took second place. Out of 4 of the league wins, three were consecutive victories, only allowing seven points, two were shut out games. Not since 1963 has Duarte had a winning season. Hoping that their victory would take them to C.I.F., the Falcon team was very disappointed when told they were not going. Despite this, the Duarte Falcons said, Next year 5 and and all the way! 92 J.V. ACTION -| , - 93  t JS l . u.; .f-i VI «. wife-a.aii ' •dMiW ' Pictured above. Sports clearly made the differance, the Football team having one of the best seasons ever, the Cross Country team placing 6th in C.I.F., the Basketball team trying and the Wrestling team winning league championship for the second year in a row. At the time of this writing the Baseball team is 5-5-1, showing great improvement under Coach Ortega. The Track team is 2-1, placing 2nd at the B.S.U. Invitational. It is clearly obvious that Duarte High School, now has the potential to be something more unique than an institution hung up on the belief that annual racial confrontations are a reality that cannot be altered. Instead, I see Duarte High as a school where the entire student body, administrators, and faculty are working harmoniously together for the benefit of our school as a whole, with impartiality towards none. Roxannc Rom-rs- Fall A.S. B. Vice Prfsidcnt Leaders Spring Duarte High School has come a long way in these last couple of years, and this year it has improved contrary to the belief of some students. The success of all our athletic teams brought long- waited-for spirit to our school. Finally it appears that all the racial groups are moving toward that goal, where all of us can live together peacefully instead of violently. The togetherness the whole school had through this year was just great. This is a promise toward a better time. In conclusion my hope is that I and the rest of the student council along with the students and faculty will work together for the betterment of the school next year. We had reporters yelling at editors, editors yelling at each other and reporters and Mr. Peale yelling at everyone. And yet, somehow, we survived from week to week. And, when presented with the alternative of changing, we refused. Somehow we took a sadistic pleasure in leaving it to the last minute and then frantically throwing it all together. First, we would like to thank all those who helped make this book possible; The Staff, Mr. Martin, Mr. Gibson (of Pischel Yearbooks), Glenbrier Studios, the countless students, and a special thanks to Mr. Tim McCabe for his long hours, headaches, and pains. As editors we would like to say this has truly been a unique experience, some we would like to remember, some we would like to forget. In conclusion, we would like to thank Duarte High School for a lesson in life.
