DEDICATED TO GREGOR SAMSA OR CHERYL HANNA Do not be captured by the spirit of Futility and defeatism For evil and pain are Mere holes in the world of menace O My children The mountain may seem high And the sky dark But height is relative to The size of one ' s soul And darkness is the state one is in When one ' s eyes are closed There is no need to fight your brother- Just do what you must Reacting and fighting are barriers To fulfilling yourself You will hear some say it is impossible Or even worthless But don ' t let those with The crushed souls Spread their disease to you There are many students here at Duarte High that think the problems of this campus are unique. I am convinced, through talking to students at other High Schools that most of the problems we face are also shared by these schools. Therefore negative statements about Duarte being uniquely bad are not true. About the only problem that faces our school that is not a factor to others is that of financial assistance. I am of the opinion that with student support we can remove the apathy, or the nonchalant attitude of our student body. With the present S. R. C. I think we will move more this year in a more positive direction than any other Associated Student Body.
