PROUD BIRD This was a year of transition for The Proud Bird . For the first time in recent memory, the Duarte High Newspaper looked like a newspaper. We tried this year to concern ourselves with things that D. H. S. students could relate to. We tried to dig for news that was more important than bubble- gum things most highschool news- papers have. Editorially, we tried to deal with issues that would get people to think. We tried to editorialize on more than Senior privileges and other out- dated issues. Our Sports page covered more than just results of games. We tried to get into the reasons why and even ran an article on long-liair in sports. Additionally, our feature page pre- sented results of interesting surveys and other interesting features. There was no money allocated to us by A. S. B. All the money for the paper was raised by sales, subscription, and ads. We had to work hard for the money. This year, we tried a new technique of having the members of the staff make the major decisions. The advisor, Mr. Peale, served mainly as a resource person and did an excellent job with liis extensive journalism knowledge. It was a very valuable experience. -Bernard Ohanian- 175
