Sounds of Duarte students in the various choral organizations at Duarte High School have excellent opportunities for performance. Each organization functions as a daily class offering instruction for development of basic music skills in combination with high standards in the performance area. The larger choral groups. Girls ' Glee, Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, and Ensemble appear an- nually in the Christmas Concert and Spring Con- cert. The programs usually feature selected so- loists, a Ladies ' Ensemble, and the Triple Trio. Throughout the year the Ensemble sings for various community groups and organizations. This group has been a distinguished representa- tive for Duarte High School in past years and has received commendation and praise. All students who elect courses in vocal music seek to attain a high level of competency. Top left- Mixed Choir, Mid. WIND ORCHESTRA The Band and Wind Orchestra are often confused. Both are musical groups but the Wind Orchestra deals with concert music and performances. This year the Wind Orchestra performed at the Los Angeles County Fair, a formal Christmas Concert, a Spring Concert at Clifton Jr. High School Audi- torium and a Pops Concert here at D. H. S. This year for the first time they competed in a Festival. They were in competition with other schools in the San Gabriel Valley. In a competi- tion like this a group must play a piece of music they ' ve prepared, a piece of music selected from a limited and selective list and a piece of music given to them by the judges to play on the spur of the moment. The group is judged on the three pieces for their intonation, interpretation, tone quality and accuracy. The Wind Orchestra this year has proven to be a most successful group. ic.;
